incredible. As if I can hear Shakespeare thinking. Who is this actress? What is this transcendent delivery? Radical yet tied like an umbilical cord straight to the Bard

The actress playing Hamlet is Michelle Terry!

That guy in the white baseball…seriously dude? He looks like he’s just trying to make it through the opening act before the dancing girls come on. So effin rude

Watching this version immediately after I watched the Kenneth Branagh version from his film was absolutely jarring! I prefer Branagh, but, as always, its all subjective.

I have enjoyed many variations of this wonderful speech and prefer to not rank them. I am impressed with this. And isn't it incredible that to this day actors are bringing Shakespeare alive in new ways. I expect this is the first time Hamlet had to wipe a runny nose.

It’s unusual to see Ham as a girly. Is Ophelia a black guy in this production or is it an all lesbian cast?
@heyitshesperusАй бұрын
@@aclark903 I think that in this production (2018's) they were trying to follow Shakespeare's liking to do genderbent casting choices, not only with women playing men (Michelle Terry being Hamlet), but also with some female characters being played by men- Ophelia in this version was played by Shubham Saraf, and from what I've been reading, it seems like it was a mix, with some male actors being female characters (Ophelia, for instance), but also, most of the male actors playing men (Polonius, Fortinbras, the ghost of Hamlet's father, Claudius and Rosencrantz). In anyhow, most women women in the production play men (Hamlet, Laertes, Guildenstern and Horatio), except for Gertrude, played by a woman.

@@heyitshesperus #Freud wrote about this play. Maybe you’re more familiar with the performance history than the critical history ? In Freud, he basically is arguing that Ham is sexually jealous of his uncle.

Excellent. You go girl! Go on with your bad self. Women can sometimes touch and express emotions so well. It is incredible writing, of course.

It would be nice if the Globe didn't feel the need to apologise for Shakespeare.
