Dominic Thiem catches his racquet early therefore interrupting his torso rotation and a full finish. However, he only does this in practice. Interestingly, during matchplay he still catches the racquet but allows the stroke to fully swing out just like all the other players with this particular style.

For a beginner like me catching the racket is more to prove to myself that I do proper follow through. When I catch the racket, I am reassuring myself that I really do that follow through. I have started to learn tennis in three years ago (at the age of 70) and most of the time I stop the racket too early. Hopefully I can get somebody to video my forehand strokes.

Nice. After 5 years of playing tennis, or so, one day I noticed I catch the racquet. Never trained to do that and never heard the concept before, it must have all happened in a sub-conscious level. Tennis is a strange thing. Thanks coach for this advice. Now, I have to go to court and find out if I do it correctly.

Nice Video again! Since 10 years I teach my young students (or beginners) always to catch the racket on the forehand. Not in a stopping motion in front of the body, but at the finish. The effect is a much better upper body rotation.

As I was watching your video, I was thinking that many are going to mention about Roger and Grigor's forehand and you nailed it literally a few seconds later. This is great advice coach Nik. For me, during faster pace balls and movements I tend not to catch but only for much slower, practice strokes. Not too sure if that's OK or not. On a different note, do you have any videos/coaching about grip switching from forehand to backhand and vice versa during baseline rallies and quick transition lateral movements? Thanks much for the consistent high quality videos Nik. Many of us are living vicariously through you during our lockdown. Cheers!

@@IntuitiveTennis Hey coach great video, but more so regarding beginner grips than switching from forehand to backhand (and vise versa) in quick groundstroke situations. I just realized that it will be complicated to make a video like this anyways since there are multiple forehand grip varieties. Thanks regardless and looking forward to more videos! Cheers!

I think the idea is to allow yourself to fully swing the racket, so it might be a good 'incentive' to catch the racket, but in practice it's not always possible for example if you're doing a running forehand.

Just adding that our beloved Guga Kuerten used to catch the racquet on FH around the elbow most of the time. Sometimes around the waist depending on the ball. I, for one, can't catch the racquet if my life depended on it.. I let it fly loose around the elbow. If I make a conscious effort to catch it it throws off my shot entirely.

So you are clarifying these finisihes in the cleares way.Haven"t seen any other videos clearing it out like that. Some players have more finished (Nadal , Djokovic) and Federe catch the racket when warming up or praticing. I looked at the great chilian now reteared player"s Gonsarles forhand and it looked like he"s finishing across and not so much pointing the rackethead to the backfence ending the stroke ? Maybee I"m wrong. How do you feel about The polish upcomming star Igas Forhand. Would you recomment her "close to the bodystile forhand to more advanced (ore anybody) players ? Anyway thanks and happy newyear frqm Olaf Copenhagen
@IntuitiveTennis3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Olaf Iga’s contact point is naturally that close to body and it doesn’t influence her forehand in a negative way. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6G1q2SHpqp-qa8

Hey nick what’s your opinion , I am 5 feet 7 and right handed , I wanted to ask something for my backhand I can play with both two handed and the one handed . When I hit one hander for a long time then my tricep tendon pains but speed is good on the ball , whereas with the two hander I am at more comfortable position but not able get that much of speed what should I do then

Nikola, what do you recommend when the wrist or the area where you hold the racket hurts? I’m a beginner so I might be using the racket the wrong way but lately my wrist and the muscles around the outer part of my left hand hurts. Specially when I’m doing a forehand (I’m a lefty). What do you recommend me to do after each practice in order to feel better?

Who in the right mind thinks Medvedev’s forehand is similar to Federer’s? Seriously... They don’t even use the same grip! Btw your swing is wrong at best... no one on a competitive level swings like that
