I was talking to an older country lady about my problems making dyes with Agaritas or Walnut husks. She said an old trick is to put amonia in to set the color. I haven’t tried it on clothes yet but it worked for my walnut wood stain.

Thanks for the note! I might give that a try :)

With Rit dye, you just add salt to the water. For this, I wouldn't have cooked the berries, and I would have just used salt and water, no cooking, no pre-treating. The acid you used may have prevented the dye from sticking, especially since you didn't rinse it out. You could also try, if what I mentioned didn't work, adding a bit of vegetable oil to the mix. That works if the color is fat-soluble. Raw berries stain everything, so mashing them with the shirt, dry, would probably work decently. Don't rinse it immediately, but let it dry before that. Not sure which of these things might help, but hopefully one will! I used Rit amethyst once, just stepping on the towels and a couple shirts in my bathtub, and they were beautiful and vibrant for years. Good luck, gurl. Sometimes we need some!

Thank you so much for such a thorough comment!! I'll for sure be trying some of these methods out once I get my hands on some more pokeberries🙂

You can eat like berries but do not eat the seeds. Only eat a few at a time. They are very good to combat arthritis.

Nice try. I like your humor. Why do the Poke berries stain my white t-shirts , purplish pink, without trying?
