To fight global hunger, farmers know best | Food and Agriculture Organization | Awake at Night

Growing up on a farm, Beth Bechdol never dreamed of following in her agricultural family’s footsteps. Now Deputy Director-General of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), she has not only returned to her roots, but is now fighting the corner of farmers the world over.
“I know what it takes to grow a crop and to provide enough support for your animals. And if you don't have access to any of that, it's crushing. These are the things that on a regular basis keep me up at night.”
The United Nations works to defeat hunger and achieve food security around the world, providing emergency agricultural aid to help mitigate food crises. In this episode, Beth Bechdol reflects on the perils of donor fatigue, on the devastation wrought on agriculture by war and climate change, and on what the world can learn from the wisdom of farmers.

Not all farmers know best - farming is often associated with much enviro destruction, pollution including GHG emissions, livestock cruelty, conflict with wildlife & biodivetsity loss, awa human rights abuses of farm workers (many of which are migrants). Many farms are run like corporations with profits before planet & people.

United Nations, these police also took a pad out my car that I keep a list of things to buy and get done. This is ridiculous. They want to know everything about me for a court case. Allah showed me many years ago they would want to use something like that in a court letting them know I do spend money. This is some really ridiculous mess. These police are like brats. They act like little bad children.

United Nations, little over a week ago I mistakenly left my calendar in my car and let my granddaughter use the car to get to work. Allah warned me these police would go in my car and get my calendar in which I keep records on what I do and hours and days my cousin needs me to come in and help the family. I had to rush and go get the calendar out that vehicle.

As a result of colonialism, the Europeans population has grown too large for them to feed on their own. They depend on the farms in Central America, so they try to take over Mexico so they can control to supply routes for the food shipments. Mexico can force the Europeans to negotiate by blockading the food shipments. Europe does not have enough farms or land to feed their own population. Force them to negotiate.
