Hetalia is very happy. But once you get into it, you then realize Hetalia has no plot... History itself is the plot. So technically its not just the fandom making it bloody and tragic...that's what it really is, Hetalia is history. One of the reasons I absolutely adore it.

3 days though...720 men with 50 guns stood their ground against 42 thousand with tanks and aerial support. If that isn't amazing bravery, I don't know what it is. It's kinda sad that most of the people I know don't care about Poland... Also, It would be cool to see some mentions of Mexico or Latin America in these vids. There have been a lot of important historical events down here too. Mexico´s independence and Revolution, 20th century dictators, Tlatelolco Massacre, Case Ayotzinapa, Cuban Revolution...it would be cool to see an Historical Hetalia vid focused on the American continent.

In Mexico alone there were many civil wars and the incident with Napoleon the 3rd creating the 2nd Mexican empire, then when you get to Central America and most people don’t know they were one republic, and the dozens of other countries had their own unique wars and conflicts many involving popular characters like France and England and the hate-love relation between the u.s and Mexico

galaxy hitchhiker72 No one care about Poland, maybe without Hungary, they are our ¼ "blood" brothers (In 1956, when protests broke out in Hungary and a lot of people were injured at that time, the Poles though they were not in a better situation, they gathered the most important things for them at the moment [bandages, medicines, food, money] and donated blood at medical facilities to send it's all to Hungarians), but Poland care about everyone and try to help with it, which they can help

+SaviChan Aru How it was... "Polish man can" (Polak potrafi). Is sth on the world, that Pole can't do? I think not. Hetalia create my country (I'm Pole) as a man who is laughing about everything and don't get anything serious. Ok, I know, it's comedy. But it's really good to see videos like that - videos that shows our bloody history. When you look at it from this point of view, history of Europe is one of the bloodiest (I write it good?). Going back to your words - at the beginning I was surprised too. But Poland is the "Phoenix of Europe" not without reason. Still unbelievable? As I said - "Polak potrafi" - this two words says more than thousand words. I really love Dark Hetalia, it's so true... And cruel :c ~ Jak to szło... "Polak potrafi". I okrutna :c

+Ookaminoishi Yeah we are not the Phoenix of Poland for nothing. Though I think Poland's personification might just be hiding his feelings so well that no one sees the pain and betrayal he really feels. He has not ever shown anyone his real feelings not even Liet, he is scared that that someone will use it as a weakness and succeed in wiping him off the map forever.

It's amazing that this powerful, serious, heartbreaking interpretation of Hetalia surfaced. Sometimes there needs to be a darker side to lovable characters. It's even more enthralling with Hetalia since it is about history - the reality of our world.

I have always loved history... But when I was in high school, I discovered Hetalia. Now, I'm a creative writing and history double major, and aiming to get a PHD in history. I want to teach history to people and show them how interesting and important it is. Even the very worst of it. If that means that I have to use Hetalia to get people into it, so be it. But I want to aim for people to be interested in reality without having to resort to fiction, if at all possible. Not that Hetalia is bad, but there are real people, who are not fake, that fought and died for their country or against their own country. Sometimes their stories are very moving, or extremely twisted or sad, and sometimes I feel that in this fandom, "real" history can be overshadowed by the fictional characters. Sometimes, not all the time. I guess I'm just venting... It's kind of a pet peeve of mine.
@vietbluecoeur
@vietbluecoeur 10 жыл бұрын
(( I know this comment is 2 months old so this is really a very late reply, but I just have to say something. Mainly: ^ THIS. THIS is the attitude that most, if not all, Hetalia fans should have. In fact, not just Hetalia fans but everyone everywhere should have some degree of this sort of historical knowledge. History shapes us, defines us, and there are so many sides to it that we can spend lifetimes looking at all of them. Hetalia is a comedy show but I have to say, I prefer the serious, darker interpretations of it much much more. I do agree with you that it should be best to get people interested in history without the use of fiction, however. No matter how much we adore these fictional characters, it is better to be aware that they still represent real people who died and suffered and triumphed in these wars.
@moshlingzoo
@moshlingzoo 9 жыл бұрын
[[I agree with all of you. As much as I love the show, and as much as I find history fascinating, it's important to keep the two separate. Sometimes people forget that these characters actually represent real countries, real places and most of all real people, that could possibly take offence at the way they are portrayed. I don't really mind the way my country's character is shown, and you may not either, but somebody may do, and probably will. I think that to crossover an animated show into real history and real events *in a disrespectful or unnecessary manner* is disgusting, and makes me disappointed in my 'fandom'. I am not saying history should be ignored, I am not saying you should not get into history because of Hetalia. But what I _am_ asking is that people treat each other and each other's history and culture with the respect they deserve. It is true Hetalia is a comedy, albeit a mildly educational one, but that doesn't give you an excuse to treat world history as a joke. I'll be the first to admit I didn't know about any of the micronations portrayed in Hetalia, and I have since become a Lady of Sealand. However, I do not spam the Sealand member forums with Hetalia, nor do I force it on to anyone else, in the real world or otherwise. Because history is very important, it is what teaches us, and educates us and makes us who we are today. So, at least sometimes, please take a step back from your 'hot yaoiz' and 'OTPs' to remember that these animated 'things' are real people you talking about, that may disagree with your opinions or Hetalia's representations. Take a moment to recognize the real, _true_ stories from these places you love so much - you will feel better for it. TL;DR: Hetalia and history are separate things. Please, please don't treat real issues as a joke. And on the other hand, don't take Hetalia too seriously. It _is_ a comedy, after all! But things are stereotyped, do not bring your anime fantasies into the real world. People may not, and probably won't, like it. Thank you for your respect, I hope this opened your eyes a bit. Also, shout-out to the creator of this video. It is very nice!]]

Hetalia makes is way easier for me to oversee everything and it makes me feel closer to the countries involved. I know millions of people died, but those are just numbers and it makes me feel more distanced. And yes, I could look it up and see who they were and how heroic and innocent they were, but you're not going to do that if you're not interested.

Merel Ha that's true. I'm not into history and the people who have died in history don't mean anything to me, but that doesn't mean I disrespect them. I understand their contributions are important and should NEVER be taken lightly, but now it's all in the past. Hetalia got me slightly interested in history but it's still not my thing - I just can't pay attention in history class it's so dull imo. Though thanks to Hetalia I've gotten better grades. But Hetalia DID get me thinking of the world outside my country, Canada. (He wasn't in this awesome video :( but it's ok) and it makes me feel closer to my country and got me slightly interested in world affairs. (But it's still not my thing) and it made me start contributing to real things instead of watching tv 24/7. But I definitely know reality and Hetalia are separate.

тнє ℓιттℓє ρєтяα яαℓ Philippines was an underling/colony of Spain from the 16th to 19th century. There were local rebellions yes.. but not enough to topple the Spanish government. Philippines was still under full control of Spain for three centuries. So it does not mean that Philippines was Spain's enemy for 333 years. :) Then Spanish-American war broke out. At that time the Phil. revolution was already starting. However Spain ceded the Phils. to America for 20 million dollars. Fil-Am war broke out (the Phil. revolutionists just continued their job, albeit a different enemy, USA) although the Phils. was still American colony. Then in WWII.. Phils. was captured and became Japanese territory (2 years).. also served as one of the battlegrounds for the war in the Pacific (Americans & Filipinos. vs Japanese). After WW II America helped Phils. recover and finally granted them independence on July 4, 1946 after being USA's colony for 50 years. -Greetings from the Philippines :D we are still waiting when the Philippines will show up on Hetalia. I know this would sound weird to asked but didn't HRE rule ended about the time the US civil war broke out or I got the year's mixed up? Another thing I know people keep "blaming" the US for the Vietnam War but if you ACTUALLY look into it France started the war with the IndioChina countries in the late 50's to early 60's wanted independence from the French Government and didn't want to lose its "colonizers" like how Britain lost theirs during and after WW2

Great video! But I have a small question... What does the '1947' during the Cold War part stand for? Is it referring to the Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan? Or is it referring to Cominform?

When you think about it, a lot of the stuff happening in the 20th century was only 17 years ago and it's been 75 years since Pearl Harbour. Holy Rome was dissolved in 1806. Napoleon died in about 1722 or 1822 (can't remember which year. It was a while ago I learned about that.) World War 2 and the depression was only about 80 or so years ago. When you think about it, all this stuff happens and no one realizes it was that long ago.

Literally don't get me started on Canadian contributions to the WWI OR II. I am both a patriotic little maple leaf and a huge history buff. Like, I'm literally resisting the urge to write a fucking essay about Canadian war contributions here so I think I'll stop now.

i was surprises to zee Belgium nut Its true in 1830 we wanted to be independent from the Netherlands we crowed our own king Leopold I but in 1832 its was then that were official independent we were the kingdom of Belgium but that's was also because of the British ministers they put some pressure on the Netherlands even so we like to think of the Netherlands as friends
