Sophie herself did not notice how the night flew by. When she finished her work, it was already light outside. That's how it always happened when she was doing what she loved. Time seemed to disappear. Sophie once again looked critically at her creation; she liked everything. There was nothing to complain about. A two-tiered cake, decorated with flowers, pearls and carved leaves. Shiny icing, airy delicate cream, soft fresh sponge cake.
The mastic figure of newlyweds crowning this work of art caught the eye. Sophie did her best, and now the sweet couple literally resembled the bride and groom from the photos Brendan showed her. She tried to convey the smallest details-elements of costumes, hairstyles, even facial expressions. It turned out great!
Sophie loved creating beautiful cakes from early childhood. Her favorite toys were pots and a mixer. Interestingly enough, little Sophie learned everything on her own. There was no one to teach her. At first, she took up cooking out of desperation-she wanted to eat, but food did not create itself, unfortunately. Then, she somehow got drawn in; the process itself turned into pleasure, creativity, a way to express herself, and a way to take care of loved ones.
Sophie sat down at the table, propping her chin with her hands. The celebration was scheduled for tonight. It was early morning now, so she should get some sleep. The cake would soak up the cream, infuse, and finish. Sophie anticipated how pleased Mr.Walton and his wife would be when they saw the gift prepared by their son's girlfriend for their wedding anniversary.
The idea of the surprise came to Sophie by chance. She was looking at an old family album she found on Brendan's shelf. She wanted to see childhood photos of her beloved. She found them, smiled at how funny and cute he was, and then came across a picture from his parents' wedding. Mr. and Mrs.Walton were so young, so in love, so happy! Sophie admired their sincere emotions, and, as often happens with creative people, she was inspired by this old photo. The idea of a gift was immediately born in her head. She and Brendan had thought so much about what to present to his parents on their wedding anniversary. It had to be something interesting, bright, original, and unusual.
Sophie knew that Mr.Walton was not thrilled that his only son was dating her. She was not from their circle, had no wealthy parents nor influential relatives. Brendan was a real prince-the son of the owner of a chain of restaurants, educated at a prestigious university. He was handsome, athletic, and intelligent.
At first, Sophie was also deterred by this fact. She tried to stop thinking about him, tried to control her feelings, but the heart cannot be commanded. And Brendan... he courted her sincerely, was as open and honest as possible. And eventually, it won her over.
And here they were together, despite the dissatisfaction of his parents and some acquaintances. They were happy together. They lived in Brendan's apartment in the city center as a real family, preparing for their wedding. Brendan wanted it to be a luxurious celebration, a holiday where Sophie would feel like a princess!
His parents seemed to have finally come to terms with their son's choice. Sophie could not be sure; they had not yet had the opportunity to meet and discuss everything. But on the wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs.Walton, they were invited as a couple. And that meant something!
For this celebration, Sophie prepared a cake. She ordered the ingredients in advance, looking for the best quality. The image of the cake formed in her head. And now the cake was ready. Sophie once again admired her creation from all sides and went to the bedroom. She needed to sleep to be rested, fresh, and cheerful by the evening.
The young woman lay on the bed and covered with a light blanket. Her arms and back hummed with pleasant fatigue, her heart was light and clear, as always, after performing work at the highest level. Once again, she was convinced that her vocation was as a pastry chef. She did not cook-she created, and she loved it very much! The process, the preparation, and the actual result.
Sophie was tired, but sleep did not come to her. Memories of her childhood-hungry and uncomfortable-came to her mind.
