they seriously need to give the older chimp some adhd medicine. he's hyperactive. and then you have the baby who is constantly trying to grab and hit the older one. it probably needs some medicine too. then off camera you have some other chimp going ballistic at the 6:20 mark. these are some of the most poorly behaved chimps around. this so-called zoo needs to start punishing the chimps when they act up like this or they are going to be impossible to manage when they get older and stronger. no one likes to deliver a spanking but thats exactly what this baby chimp needs. who knows, maybe thats why the chimp off-screen was crying at 6:20 -- his furry butt was getting the beating that he deserves. as for the older one, it might be too late. he'll probably act like a wild animal all his life unless they start taking drastic action to get him to calm down.

Chimps act like this when they don't have enough physical activity or stimulation. As for the lack of physical activity, the older chimp is on a 1 foot chain all day, while the others are kept in tiny cages. In the wild, the older chimp would be climbing and swinging through the trees on his own. The younger chimps would be going on adventures, while riding on their mother's backs. As for stimulation, chimps are extremely intelligent. In the wild, the forest is their playground. These chimps having absolutely NOTHING to play with, to stimulate their intelligent and curious minds. Chimps need more activity and stimulation than humans do to be happy and well adjusted. I would love to see how you would act attached to a 1 foot chain for even a month...You would turn into a wack-job!! Those chimps don't need ADHD medication...they need a normal chimpanzee's life...that's what they need!

Dollyo, you are absolutely right about the need for discipline. I used to own a young chimp named Bobo, and even though he spent 23 hours a day in a tiny cage he was very well behaved. That's because I took a cattle prod to him if he acted out (and sometimes even if he didn't). Poor little bastard was so terrified he used to defecate just seeing me walk into the room. Unfortunately when he got to be about 8 years old he just got too crazy and I had to sell him to a road side zoo, and I heard they later sold him to a medical research facility. I miss Bobo.

But poor moderoy is being vulnerable and sharing a precious memory of all the fun times he had with Bobo with us. this whole discussion probably has him tearfully nostalgic for the days when he would take the cattle prod and light little Bobo up like a Christmas tree. i'm sure it's hard enough knowing that he'll probably never have another little chimp to play with like that again. let's not throw salt in his wounds. moderoy's wounds, i mean. it's okay to throw salt in Bobo's wounds.

Dollyo Perhaps moderoy could use the cattle prod on his own children, in honor of little (or big) Bobo. Afterall...what's good for the chimp...is good for the human (goose/gander theory). And, if moderoy has no children...well he could adopt. Plenty of foreign orphanages offering children with chimp-like behavior...for moderoy to be able to honor Bobo with.
