You only have to worry about shunted sockets for single ended bulbs.

Not all Led tubes are positive and negative on one end. Therefore this video will cause the breaker to trip on some of the newer LED tubes with positive and negative on opposites ends folks!!!

fortunately haven't tripped a breaker yet, thanks for the info

the non power end is just a holder for the end. on the lamps I am using. the other end is black to black and white to white and are not shunted.
@JDOG1974yes5 жыл бұрын
@@thefaeryman , the newer direct wire LED bulbs are now powered on each end so you don't have to change the wiring or sockets whenever removing the ballast. That's all I was saying.

Mine are shunted so if I replace the power end with non shunted which I will what about the other end. Can I leave those shunted or do they also have to be non shunted? I know the are not powered but will the shunts cause an issue on the far end?

I don't know what year is this video. But here 2019. I just went to lowes and got a pack of LEDs and ballasts for the type of 32 t8 4n, red the diagram and wired as I understood and turned the switch and they turned on. I plugged every hole in those receptacles with a single wire coming from the ballast as the diagram showed. I thought: Well, worst case I'll get them burnt or trip the breaker. Nop. They're working.

well if the lamp holders are shunted, meaning a dead short between the contacts of the holder you must replace them with non-shunted holders. you remove the ballasts and give or throw away. one end is just to support the lamp. the power end is only need the hot and neutral, the green wire goes to frame. I bought the cheap shop lights about $16 threw away the ballasts. I bought the led lamps on amazon, which shipped the non-shunted lamp holders. out of 16 shop lights I had zero failures. thanks for watching

@@thefaeryman these LEDs they told me I don't need to change anything. Just remove the fluorescents and put the LEDs. I replaced the ballast cause it wasn't working at all. But I don't know if they work without it.

@@fernesal you must not have either used the right ballast or wired them correctly. here is what I used: www.amazon.com/Hyperikon-equivalent-Daylight-Single-Ended-Lighting/dp/B00NXBMDEY/ref=sr_1_4?crid=344FN1S9L31M5&keywords=led+shop+light+bulbs+4ft&qid=1577021006&s=home-garden&sprefix=led+shop+light+bubls%2Cgarden%2C215&sr=1-4 www.amazon.com/Non-Shunted-Turn-Type-JACKYLED-Fluorescent-Replacements/dp/B00SQY0ZS4/ref=pd_bxgy_60_2/146-2702838-8351500?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00SQY0ZS4&pd_rd_r=ab1dddbb-1867-4bd6-86e7-b40a92cb87d7&pd_rd_w=HLFyS&pd_rd_wg=x7S1l&pf_rd_p=09627863-9889-4290-b90a-5e9f86682449&pf_rd_r=P40H1MNJ0ANB0WWZBN1W&psc=1&refRID=P40H1MNJ0ANB0WWZBN1W www.amazon.com/Non-shunted-JACKYLED-Fluorescent-Replacements-Programmed/dp/B01GCHS41G/ref=pd_bxgy_60_3/146-2702838-8351500?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01GCHS41G&pd_rd_r=ab1dddbb-1867-4bd6-86e7-b40a92cb87d7&pd_rd_w=HLFyS&pd_rd_wg=x7S1l&pf_rd_p=09627863-9889-4290-b90a-5e9f86682449&pf_rd_r=P40H1MNJ0ANB0WWZBN1W&psc=1&refRID=P40H1MNJ0ANB0WWZBN1W good luck merry Christmas

Nice vid. Doing some single pin t8s soon. Assuming it’s even simpler. Is it going to be hot to one side and neutral to other side?

And this is why I buy LED tubes that are compatible with a ballast. You can't beat the convenience of plug-and-play.
@thefaeryman6 жыл бұрын
I have heard the ballast uses more energy than the straight led tubes
@jamesm5686 жыл бұрын
Rev John O'Toole 4 to 5 watts more which is an acceptable trade-off for convenience, especially when you have 8 light fixtures in a shop.
@legallyinsane71516 жыл бұрын
Sorry James, try over 50 watts more. I'm an old-timer journeyman electrician , you better watch this YT video by way of explanation. LED Tubes + Ballast May Not Reduce Energy Costs - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5-klYyrnbGog7s
@legallyinsane71516 жыл бұрын
The ballast effectively cancels out your savings, as well as leaving a used $15 part in the light to go bad later. Also a bad ballast can fry an LED lamp when it goes bad.
@jamesm5686 жыл бұрын
Legally Insane I have fluorescent light fixtures that are 20 years old and never had a ballast go out and a ballast doesn't waste 50 watts when using LEDs. Yeah, there is a little waste of power when keeping the ballast in play but it's not 50 watts and you can tell just by looking at the specs of the ballast which was designed to push when using conventional fluorescence which is something LEDs don't do.
