In segment 2, I was shocked that number 3 got any votes after saying that the Galopogos islands are in the Indian Ocean instead of off the coast of South America in the Pacific! And no one mentioned it!

Exactly! The guy works at the U.N. and doesn't know where the Galápagos Islands are?? The islands happen to be an archipelago of volcanic islands in the Eastern Pacific, located around the equator 900 km west of South America. They form the Galápagos Province of the Republic of Ecuador.

A few comments made about the pronunciation of Galapagos, but no one mentioned that the islands are not in the Indian Ocean. They are in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Ecuador. Galapagos is the Spanish word for tortoise.

Precisely. I was fooled by number 2 because he pronounced zoological correctly and he sounded pretty good when he started spouting off about carapaces.😊

In the last segment, one of the panelists disqualified herself because she knew one of the 3 ladies. This happens quite often. I think the producers should ask the contestants if they know any of the panelists.

Joseph Kearns died a few months prior to this, and his last episode as Mr. Wilson was shown May 6, the very night before this was broadcast. I wonder if the replacement Mr. Wilson had not been cast yet.

As on the first time she was on the panel, Sally Ann Howes is almost like Polly Bergen. Johnny Carson looks at her a lot, not sure what he is thinking. Dennis the Menace was a great show. Thanks for the video.

In Round #1, the real Hank Ketcham, who created and drew the "Dennis the Menace" cartoon strip, said something to the effect that the character of Mr. Wilson *was* (past-tense) played by (Joseph) Kearns. Kearns died when the "Dennis the Menace" TV series was still at the height of his popularity--and I think it was *before* this episode of TTTT was aired. So, I'm wondering why he back-pedalled when questioned about it further. (When Kearns died, he was replaced by Gale Gordon--who had a long career as a character actor on TV comedies--usually playing easily flustered bosses--or, in the case of "Our Miss Brooks," the easily flustered principal of the high school where the title character was a teacher.)

Joseph Kearns, who played George Wilson, died on February 17, 1962. (Ironically, in the the last episode of Dennis the Menace that aired before his death, the character of Mr. Wilson makes his will and explains that Dennis will inherit his gold watch when he dies.) This episode of To Tell The Truth aired on May 7, 1962. Gale Gordon first appeared on Dennis the Menace on May 27, 1962, playing the new character of John Wilson (George's brother). Hank Ketcham's answers on this subject were confusing. He may have been uncomfortable talking about it due to the recent death of Joseph Kearns and may have been caught by surprise that he was even asked about it. The panelists may have been unaware of the death.

Two things. 1. Bud never asked Betty which lady she knew so that she disqualified herself. 2. I don't know why Johnny kept looking at Sally Ann as if her questions and/or reasons were wacky or crazy. I found her delightful and nothing wrong with her questions or reasons for voting the way she did.

Greg .Patrei -i agree with you about Carson's odd and quite rude mugging and reactions to Sally, and it's the reason i came to this comment section to see if anyone else was spurred to comment... I also found Sally quite delightful in TTTT, which led me to look her up on wikipedia, and was surprised to see she was in the movie Chitty Chitty bang bang, which i saw with my parents at the drive-in when it first came out, and as a kid i was not favorably impressed with her, probably due to her high pitched voice... But as an adult watching her performance here on TTTT, i can see why she was in such demand back then in movies, plays and television. I'm glad sally gave johnny his own medicine back to him by calling him out on his own reasoning, and notice she and kitty reached in front of him to shake hands (either in this or a subsequent TTTT). I can only guess that Johnny felt threatened by her, and had some sort of blind spot as to her charms. Im a great fan of Johnny's skills, but nobody is perfect. BTW wikipedia says Sally is alive today. (august 2018) at age 88.

@@cmans79tr7 I agree, I always feel as if JC is condescening to SAH. She sometimes seems to be nervouus, and I think had not done this show for long in 1962. I think she must have become acquainted with Kitty from being in My Fair Lady a few years earlier and working with Moss Hart (legendary director, Kitty's husband) as she prepared to move into that musical.

Absolutely agree with the comments about JC. What a dreadful man. His schoolboy behaviour is appalling, sneering & sniggering at SAH who is obviously very nervous. She should have slapped his face. He also leers over young women contestants. Obviously a woman hater. Something seriously wrong with the way he was brought up.

Different time, my friend. The proliferation of video, pictures, and imagery overall was a fraction of what it is today. 15% of American household were still listening to the radio and hadn't transitions to owning a TV set yet. First televised Presidential debate was just 2 years earlier. TV was only on air 12-18 hours daily. Not unusual for many accomplished people outside of those in Hollywood back then to not be visually recognized - including some accomplished athletes of the day - movie actors/actresses were by far the most recognized; today, with EVERY game televised, it might be athletes.

Johnny Carson legally separated from his first wife in 1959; they divorced in 1963. He then married Joanne Copeland in 1963. They were introduced to each other byJoanne‘s father in 1960. Although they were dating at the time of this episode of 1962, I guess Johnny was one to “take a look“ at Sally Anne Howes, who was married at this time to Richard Adler.
