PANEL: Tom Poston, Dorothy Kilgallen, Johnny Carson, Dina Merrill
CONTESTANT #1: Theresa Stratas (Metropolitan opera star: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teresa_S... )
CONTESTANT #2: JT Lyle (Policeman who moonlights as a hairdresser)
CONTESTANT #3: Mickey Thompson (Race car driver: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_T... )
NOTE: This video was already posted as an "extra" to the WML channel, but I figured it should be reposted here with the rest of the TTTT series. It contains material from two sources in order to preserve as much as possible from the higher quality copy without the original commercials. Many thanks to epaddon for providing a copy of the show with the original commercials intact.

Ah, the days when commercials were only 10% of a show instead of 33% to 40%.

Almost 26 years later to the day, on March 16, 1988 Mickey Thompson and his wife were murdered by two gunmen as they attempted to depart their home. Not until 13 years later was a former business partner, Michael Goodwin, charged with the murders. In January 2007, Goodwin was found guilty of two counts of murder in the death of Thompson and his wife. He was sentenced to two consecutive life terms with no chance for parole.

I was ten years old when this episode aired. I've always loved opera, but I wouldn't have known Teresa Stratas at the time. I have since seen her as Marenka in a 'Live from the Met' broadcast of 'The Bartered Bride' and on DVD as the Mother in 'Amahl and the Night Visitors', and she was wonderful in both roles. And she was right: the Met moved to Lincoln Center in 1966, when I had the pleasure of attending a performance of 'The Magic Flute'.

Wow, the promo line in the Salem commercial was priceless. Springtime freshness? Is it a cigarette or a fabric softener? Big fan of What's My Line and Dorothy Kilgallen. She was endearing and I felt bad for her first round fumble. But she clearly knows her stuff and what questions to ask, even 'illegal' ones.

Dorothy was clearly out of her element here, but it was her first and I believe only appearance on TTTT. Someone obviously told her after the first game to write the number larger indicating her vote. That was cute how she wrote it (tiny and in the corner) for the first game. :)

I don't think people have any idea of how difficult it is to go on a panel show with this kind of format. Wasn't she a panelist on "What's My Line"? "What's My Line" is just a couples party game.

I think she was treated badly while on this show. That rule about speaking a language applies to speaking it, not reciting a few words from memory. And I have never heard "Don Jose" or "mantilla" pronounced like that by anyone with any knowledge of the language. I assume the idea is the same as the horrible prononciation of "Don Quixote" if referring to Byron's poem instead of Cervantes' novel, but in the productions of Carmen I've never heard "Don Jose" pronounced like that.

I think I agree with what was posted on an earlier video of this show: the panelist are not all given the same amount of time to answer their questions, as Johnny Carson found out here in the third game. I just timed that game and Dina got 48 seconds, Tom 49, Dorothy 57 and Johnny 38. Of course, there were audience interruptions for laughter or applause, but that should be accounted for.

In Spanish, it is "Ho-se," but the opera "Carmen" is written in French, so it is pronounced "Zho-se."

No, Dorothy Kilgallen was wrong, as Bud Colyer pointed out in the video clip, and Miss Kilgallen gracefully acknowledged her mistake. The opera was in written in French, not Spanish. It was Tom Poston who said he didn't like the way Theresa Stratas pronounced something, even though it was Dorthy Kilgallen that asked if Stratas had deliberately mispronounced the name.

I thought Bud was very rude to Dorothy. "We don't treat guest like that here, " he says after her question. Just another smart woman that Bud was intimidated by and had to put in her place, I guess. Bud was a total jerk!! He acted all nice to others, but he made enough comments to Polly that were rude that I know just who he was- a male chauvanist.

3:00 The Met used to be at 7th at 39th-40th, i.e. where Port Authority is. #2 knew it was moving to Lincoln Center.so she's my guess. It actually moved there in 1966, and can be seen in the opening credits for That Girl. 3:16 That's ridiculous Dorothy's first TTTT question was disqualified by Bud for a stupid reason. Update and spoiler: I was right! They all knew a lot about Opera though!
