Did you notice that Kitty Carlisle had a good time on this particular show. You could hear her laughing a lot. Mr. Boyington was a courageous brave man. Thanks for the video.

Kitty bouncing up and down in her seat after correctly guessing Eamonn was absolutely adorable! Her and Arlene Francis were such classy ladies with a palpable joie de vivre.

I was surprised Eamonn Andrews was a contestant on TTTT; even in 1957, he was well-known for being a guest panelist on the American version of WML...or maybe he hadn't been a guest on WML much at this point. I did NOT know he was a boxing champion! It was neat seeing the real Pappy Boyington. Excellent episode!

The reason the first game was so easy for me was because Andrews actually appeared on the panel of the American show a few times, going so far as to even sub-host for John Daly once in 1959.

Having watched What's My Line I knew who the real Eamonn Andrews was. I knew of the Flying Tigers the first contestant was not the real one because everyone in the military knows everyone salutes a Medal of Honor recipient regardless of rank. A General will salute a lower ranking officer who has one. It was interesting to meet a real Violet Beauregarde. :)

"What's My Line?" fans, check out this book on the British version of the show by Dicky Leeman. It lists ALL the episodes from 1951 to 1954. www.dropbox.com/s/zpzbsjnp8gc3us4/WML-The%20Famous%20Prog.%2C%201955%20by%20Dicky%20Leeman.pdf?dl=0 As for the British celebrities I recognized from the listings? Well, let's see: Eamonn Andrews (obviously) Richard Attenborough Petula Clark Joan Collins Gracie Fields Hermione Gingold Joan Greenwood Benny Hill Frankie Howerd Wilfred Hyde-White Boris Karloff Margaret Lockwood Bob Monkhouse Kenneth More Robert Morley Terry-Thomas David Tomlinson

In game #1, the first imposter was too eager to answer the question. This is usually an indication that they're not the actual person.

Game #1: Eamonn Andrews passed away in 1987 and hosted both What’s My Line and This Is Your Life (on ITV) until practically the end of his life. Panelist Angela Ribbon took over his chair in WML for the final seasons on the air, while TIYL was rebooted in the 90s by Thames… _to be aired on the BBC._ (Thames by then has lost his ITV franchise, but continued as a Production Company, now owned by Fremantle that also owns the G-T legacy) Also Eamonn Andrews, being a Sports Commentator, was also the first host of ITV’s Saturday Afternoon marathon _World of Sport._ 7:56 Eamonn basically said to Polly that: 1) BBC2 didn’t happen yet, and 2) ITV was still regionalised. Side note: the fact a show called _To Tell The Truth_ is sponsored by Geritol is a case of ABSOLUTE IRONY due to the brand involvement in the _Twenty One_ affair.

Pappy is from a city in Idaho only about 25 miles or so from my city of Spokane, WA, across the state line. The airport there (although is mostly just a private pilot and business plane airport) is named after him. Coeur d 'Alene, yes, one of the main cities of Idaho and the main town along with nearby Post Falls of the Idaho Panhandle, and it is a very french name indeed. For many people in Spokane the lake there and beach is one of the main destinations for a nearby days vacation, including my own family but not as much the last 5 years or so, it has sort of became too popular and is much more crowded than the days of younger for me.

Johan Bengtsson I've already seen some similar moments on this show. I think they were better at "keeping up appearance" on WML, although there were some hilarious incidents there as well. ;)

SuperWinterborn On WML they lingered on so many things that it sometimes felt like a talk show with invited celebs. Add to that Bennett's longer and longer introductions of John Daly, John's talk with the MGs and some general talk about the weather, communications, politics, the panel's travels and so on. It's only when I watch TTTT that I see how smooth a game show could run. I can't say I miss the other stuff.
@SuperWinterborn
@SuperWinterborn 9 жыл бұрын
Johan Bengtsson On WML the panel became more like a family as time went by. A bit of elitism, maybe. I don't think these two shows can be compared. They were completely different. :)
