The stamp segment may have included the best set of imposters ever.

The gift wrappings were cool. I thought for sure it was #1! Did Kitty not know what a paper cut was? 🤔😄 Tom Poston was such a dreamboat in his younger years. 💘 I love the way he smiled at boy #2 in the last game after he said who he was - so cute! And Bud’s hair looks very blond here!

Sometimes the panelists think contestants should know answers to things they wouldn’t necessarily know. 3 of the 4 thought the stamp expert should have known who the editor of The NY Times was. True, he worked for the Herald Tribune, but his editing work was confined to news pieces related to stamps, so I don’t think he should been expected to know who Turner Catledge was.

SURELY, they didn't give cigarettes to the last group (ESPECIALLY that second boy)!

Go back to the end. Bud Collyer didn't say there was a box of cigarettes waiting for them, as he did adults. This was 1962. This was 2 years before the Surgeon General's warning. It wasn't until 1971 that cigarette ads on television and radio started. At one time, doctor's recommended smoking for some ailments.

How odd to give the affidavit with the 'teaser' about the Dag Hammarskojld stamp invert going from $50,000 ot face value without telling you how. The postmaster ran off thousands more error sheets so that the stamp error would be worthless - I assume under the advice of Ernest A. Care.

You're right.....Another reason to HATE the Post Office. I wonder what would have happened if the original error owner sued the USPS.

I remember about a misprinted stamp in Italy that is the famous “Gronchi Rosa.” At least the Italian Post Office admitted the error without going to do this kind of “conspiracies.” It’s still very valuable today.

I find that Tom Poston tended to spend time questioning the "weak link". I think he learned to look for the person who wasn't trying as hard to be convincing.

I have some of those stamps! Not worth anything. I got them in an ebay lot and use them as actual postage mixed with lots of other stamps to add up to .55

I KNEW that #3 and #2 were brothers by the way #3 looked over at #2 when they were sitting down, as if he wanted to be sure little brother got settled in his chair okay. Big brother was watching! Cute!

I know that answer, and it is easily found on line. But when the show aired, the web did not exist, and I was only 3, so no one would have believed me.

They never explained how the Dag Hammarskjold error stamps became almost worthless.
@ImaCOTV8 жыл бұрын
One of the problems with this show is that once the questioning ended they lost all interest in the person who was the subject of the affidavit. The truth about the Dag Hammarsjold stamp is that once the nature of the error (one set of colours was inverted) Postmaster General Day ordered that an issue of invert stamps equal to the total number of stamps printed in the original issue would be released. Since you couldn't tell a misprint from the original issue from one of the "correct" stamps from the reissue, the value of the error stamps went through the floor. Postmaster General Day justified his action by saying that the US Post Office was "not a jackpot operation." It was a stupid decision.

When cigarettes were selected as a contestant's gift prize and minors were allowed to accept the prize.

As I recall, minors weren't given cigarettes. Some of the children were given board games. BTW, I watched these programs when they first aired. This one aired in December 1962 when I was a high school freshman.
