Polly's usually the resident goofball in her stead, but here she was the only one who didn't take disgusting, racist shots against the Native American guests. And she's the only one to guess correctly.

The radar bit threw me. Radar was a British military secret and wouldn't be shared with America prior to the start of the second world war. However, the fundamental flaw in that logic was that Dr Hagen was Canadian, so could have worked on many pre-war projects with the British.

ha ha, love how Polly adds her last "and I'm mad" at the very end as Bud is saying goodbye. I think she was right. They should have let her change her vote. She obviously got confused. I would have been mad, too.. But I was glad the contestants won a lot. It would have lowered their prize if they had changed her vote.

The Soviets beat the Americans' "Project Vanguard" in October of this year, when they successfully launched "Sputnik," prompting a sense of panic about "the crisis of education" in the USA. It was often said that, while American teenagers were goofing off and listening to rock and roll, young Russians (sic) were busy hitting the books, and that, if Americans didn't do something about this, they'd find themselves a distant Number Two to the "Russkies."

In 1958 my family moved to Ecuador. One day we took a day trip away from the city driving on cobblestone roads to visit a tracking station. There was no security (my father was a Navy pilot) so we were allowed in. While we were there Sputnik went over the station and we could hear the famous "beep-beep"!!! It was a Wonderful memory!

@@jimmygoodrich9590 That's true, of course. But do you think there was any reason for America to go to the moon? I can think of many things that were much more important that the USA could have done in the 1960's. Of course, this is just "my opinion."

So do British Cycles really have smaller wheels than American ones?
@christopherlovelock9104
@christopherlovelock9104 6 жыл бұрын
Vahan Nisanian. .. As a cyclist who has ridden both, the answer is NO. If you buy a new 'bike' you can stipulate the type of wheels, gears and size of tyres you want. Unless the 'bike' is for a specific purpose, i.e. 'road racing' or 'mountain biking' then the tyres and frame are specially designed.
@greydogmusic

Christopher Lovelock , This was 1957. Not the bikes you ride today. This is from classiccycleus.com. Their Museum page ..... "Here in the United States we wanted to help re-industrialize post-war England, so tariffs on consumer goods like bicycles from England were light or nonexistant. Around 95 percent of all bikes imported into the States in the 1950′s came from England. Bikes like this 1955 Norman “English Roadster” came to the States by the boat load. Built with light steel (for a 1950′s era bike) and sporting thin tires and three speeds, this Norman would have been considered a fast bike. Compared to the big and heavy (but popular) balloon-tire bikes of the American ’50′s, English bikes seemed to offer something different. A quick look at the back pages of a Schwinn catalogue of the era would show a few American versions of this style on offer, but American bicycle brands (like their automotive counterparts) didn’t want to sell practical or efficient. American brands wanted to sell you something with white wall tires, fins, and a lot of chrome."
