Now I finally know why a favorite television show from my toddler days was called "The Mod Squad".

I'm English, was a Mod in the 60's and watched Ready, Steady, Go, never heard her being called Queen of the mods. The female Mods followed the fashion of Mary Quant, that who I thought was on the programme when the title read Queen of the Mods.

Could you clear up something that has been confusing me for years? Whenever I see a reference to "the Mods," I also see something about their rivals, "the Rockers." I know that this even led to some violent "rumbles" between the two groups in the mid-sixties. How would you contrast the two? (Almost all of my information about this comes from watching the Rock Opera "Tommy," by The Who.)

This was only a fraction that wanted to fight, usually at a seaside resort on a Bank Holiday. The Rockers date back to the 50's, the mods came along in the early 60's. Rockers wore Leathers and rode Motor bikes, Modes dressed in Trainers Jeans, T-shirt and Parker coats, rode scooters, usually a Vespa or Lambretta.

Thank you! When I first heard about this I thought it was about the most asinine reason for two cliques to fight each other that I'd ever heard of!

It is stupid! just some Teenagers need an excuse to fight to show how macho they are, thankfully most of us were not like that.

FIRST ROUND: “girl in the British serial in boots and black leather" was Cathy Gale played by Honour Blackman in The Avengers, with Patrick Macnee, she later became Emma Peel played by Diana Rigg. Radiodefusion - I think Kitty was referring to Rediffusion a UK TV company.

I wonder if she was the inspiration for George Harrison's line "The posh bird that gets everything wrong" in A Hard Day's Night.

Interesting that McGowan was on about six weeks after the Beatles' first appearance on Ed Sullivan.

I watched an episode of "I Dream of Jeannie" today, and they were going to a mod party. I had no idea what a mod party was and had to look it up. But it seems like a coincidence that I heard the word on I Dream of Jeannie today, and then tonight I hear it again.

Will have to disqualify myself! I have lots of Ready Steady Go programmes on DVD so I would recognise Cathy McGowan anywhere. In the same round girl No. 3 looks very familiar? Wonder if she became a film star?

I remember Cathy McGowan interviewing Ringo Starr on the show and asking if he was a Mod or a Rocker. His reply: “Neither - I’m a ‘Mocker’…that’s one of John’s!” (Giving John Lennon the credit for the new word).

The skirts were short in late 60s into the 70s. Funny that they weren’t as short as back then until the past five years or so with today’s teens!

The Beatles had just made their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964 introducing them countrywide to America. The viewership numbers on Ed's show that night were totally insane. Bud made his job look easy.

They kept on about Radio Diffusion and having heard it in London. But that was French not British. We did have Rediffusion back then which is what I think they were thinking of. But it's hardly surprising they said never heard of it. Oh, and yet another bunny girl, that's about five I think I've seen on here.

Game #1: _Ready Steady Go_ was produced by Rediffusion, by then the London (weekday) ITV franchisee. In 1968 Rediffusion merged with another ITV franchisee to form the legendary Thames Television, that ceased to operate as an ITV franchisee in 1993, but continued as a production company - now owned by the same Fremantle that also took the G-T legacy, Game #2: another “Earthquake Priest” appeared in a 1961 episode: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGrYcoCYha2Xhrs

Never saw any sign of the Mod fashion the RSG host is wearing except for her hair style which is very much of the period. By sept of 64, girls wore short skirts, way above the knee, patterned hose and flats or thigh high boots. glad that ugly skirt never made it over here. I think Mary Quant was Carnaby St....I could talk about guys fashions too.
