There was more update material in between the time you played the original game and the DLC. The Photographer is from that, and there's also customization of the ship back in the starting islands, and more fish and crabs to discover in various places.

This has been one of my favourite series here in recent memory (the fact that I'm terrified of the deep sea has NOTHING to do with it), so I'm hyped! Mainly curious to see the new mutant fish, but the new region looks thrilling to explore.

@@summ.y_ I know EXACTLY what you mean, and it's not like the stylised presentation makes the concept of unknowable creatures lurking in sunless depths makes it any less terrifying, but Gab's commentary does convert a lot of that primal terror into fun, haha.

@Lyander25 Haha, totally. When I'm playing it, I'm horrified and pausing every 5 seconds. Something about Gab just changes the whole experience from horror to wholesome. Gotta love her❤️

@@summ.y_ I love how alliterative "wholesome horror" is, gonna be borrowing that phrase now. Yeah, I essentially never play horror games for myself cuz I risk breaking stuff out of panic, but it's great fun watching others play through. I do sometimes buy indie darlings as a show of support despite having NO intentions of playing, and Dredge is one I've gifted a couple times to friends. Game's just too good.

@Lyander25 I don't even know how many times I've told my friends to play dredge. I'm the same with horrors - they just get me all panicked and in a state. Sometimes (if I'm feeling bold), I give them a try. Most of the time, however, they are left on the shelf to collect dust.

My story was about a town that lives on the edge of the sea and regularly experiences their sailors going missing and ships coming back empty. One day, one sailor does come back and he chronicles the horrific tale of what happened to the rest of the crew.

For anyone curious about the Terror expedition mentioned, it's the lost Franklin expedition. To ships set out to find a quicker way to the east through the Canadian arctic, the fabled northwest passage. The crew set out and was never seen again and the details weren't discovered until 1993! It one of my favorite pieces of Canadian history and I highly encourage looking into it if you're interested. There are a plethora of videos, but I recommend history buffs' video.

the boats that honk back are the ghost ships, which are harmless. The angler fish monster mimics them to fool you.

@@anthonyislate Have you seen the ghost building at the top of the mountain in the west side of the cliffs. Sometimes you can also see a ghost island with a house around the center of the map that vanishes when you approach. Do you know the story behind those buildings?

The Captain is back in the chair & hat. You definitely seemed to have picked the game back up quickly after a long time. Dredge definitely has a unique art style, so the new camera mode for screenshots is a great way to add something fun to the game, especially with the new types of fish & whales.

Someone might have already said it, but I love talking about it a lot so sorry if they did. Boatswain is pronounced boe - sun (also spelled/abbreviated to bo'sun which makes the pronunciation more clear), basically it's been simplified down to the most basic sounds of the word (though saying it boat-swain isn't technically wrong, most sailors just don't say it like that). The people who taught me said that sailing terminology is practically its own language, it can really feel like that XD. The Boatswain is responsible for the upkeep of the hardware on the ship, for example: the rigging, the lines the anchor and flags and such. They still serve that purpose today. One translation says it means "Boat's husband" which is fun, but most translations seem to be "Boat man" or "Boat boy". I come from a family of sailors and I've volunteered on a tall ship so it's a subject very near and dear to me ^\/^
