Coming from someone who played on hard, enemies aren't really challenging. They're just bullet sponges at points in the game. The move animations are actually pretty good and the i-frame window for dodging is very generous. I don't think the combat is terrible but I have played other action games with better combat IMO. Bayonetta and Nier automata are examples.

I think a lot of the problems with a lack of challenge (especially as I continue to get overpowered by leveling up) could be solved by having an Automata style Very Hard mode where it's simply 1-hit deaths. I wonder how easy that may be for Square to update the game with, if they will. At the least, I highly agree that even on Hard, physical enemy attacks dont really do enough damage to be all that concerning, but the shade AI does act competently.

Character movement and attacks look very smooth and fluid, however when it comes to the enemies... Just massive damage sponges with shields. They barely try to attack and even if they do, their attacks looks too slow and too telegraphed to be threatening. It's like everything looks super flashy but there's little depth behind it, unlike something like DMC where you have to work your ass off to look cool but the reward is massive.

I spam dash+heavy attack with longsword (the one that swept enemies up) and they will get down after some swing but you need some lvl to begin with Also dark lance then execute with longsword is a good way too, just roll(dodge) after the blood came out and go on

Well sadly this video does a horrible job trying to prove them wrong. You never really used magic, you never countered and juggled (these armored enemies can be juggled if you counter them...) and you never did any flashy weapon switch combos. You spammed mostly the same basic moves over and over with one weapon. So this made the combat look extremely one note and boring. That said I am well aware of how good the combat in this game is... this video is just not a great example of that combat.

This mainly stems from the combat of the original just being slightly tweaked similar to Automata

The games combat is definitely slower then automata but that doesn't make it bad, and to be fair the characters in that game weren't human so it's not surprising that if it were the other way arpund the swings would be heavier, just another way of looking at it I suppose

I will say I like Automata’s for its movement and mobility but those are ANDROIDS with Maso pumped through them most likely. Nier is half of a guy, of course he’d just be.. normal

It does suck. This is not how you use big sword. The power should come from the shoulders, you need lower stance, you also need to use the weight of the sword to swing it faster. The problem with realistic big swords is that, once you start swinging that thing you can't stop. It can be hardly even called a sword, as it can not block, counter or pierce. It is more like a mace with sharp edges.

@@kristoferprovencal3608 I think in order for a game to have good gameplay, it needs a little realism, because this is what fantasy games go towards. To create a believable world where you can be somebody else, a place where everyone is someone. I just say things. I don't claim to be right or anything, just laying my opinion. Forgot to say that dynamics in a fight are important. That swords swings and stops in middle. When you fight with a big sword you need to constantly swing and don't stop, otherwise you lose momentum and stagnation, and you need to put a lot of force just to begin to swing it again.

This looks sick. I just started playing and the shadow enemies suck. I don’t know what it is. There is no impact when you hit them. The combat in Automata is so satisfying, with the clanging of hit robots and parts flying everywhere. So far replicant isn’t as fun

The difficulty of this game ruins alot of the experience for me. Normal is too easy and Hard’s enemies are just bullet sponges, shit becomes boring. You could do all this shit or just spam jump heavy till you can walk up and press O and go faster. It took you 2 mins to beat a handful of the open world enemies, and that’s considering the fact you’re obviously good at the game… combat/difficulty is by far the worst part of this game.
