The are the video is shot from the rear of the railcar reminds me of the area after Lappa Junction on the way back to Cairns while on the Savannahlander, check rails on the tight curves and rock cuttings on the decent into the valley. Anthony

I have not done that Northern run, but I’m not surprised that there are similarities in the landscape.

I was lucky to go twice in the 1980s, first time on an AREA special where the Northwest Mail departed Tenterfield and was turned on the triangle which confused shunting crews at Werris Creek. The second time I got the bus to Tenterfield and caught a taxi to Wallan-Garra and then stayed in a pub and then departed in the van of a goods. At that time, the station had a stationmaster and a few others. He told me each year, someone goes to Sydney to learn NSW safeworking. The writing was on the wall, I was detrained at Warwick and I rode in the QR car carrying the crew to Toowoomba. Around 2am or something I saw the goods go through. Sometimes the station name is hyphenated, Each state had it’s own spelling, on the NSW nameboard, someone had panted a dot in the middle.

Thanks for your reminiscences. Great days. In 1966 I went to Brisbane via Wallangarra, staying overnight at Glen Innes. I forget exactly what time we left Wallangarra but it was maybe 8am and took until around 6pm to reach Brisbane. Steam at least on the Wallangarra end of the trip.

fascinating thing about the two verandahs, similar thing at Tocumwal on the Vic border, NSW verandah on one side and a typical VR one on the BG side. The line is closed to Narrandera but the BG line still runs, the road rail bridge is now rail only and it was restored recently. It used to be a lift bridge, the Annett key saying “Tocumwal Bridge” still remains in the bridge. The 1953 edition of “The General Appendix” outlines the procedures of lifting the bridge. The Seymour crowd still runs a tourist train (or two) in spring.

How cool being able to once again go to Wallangarra by train, pitty NSW couldn't do the same, but I expect ARTC has a lot to do with that 😔

I think ARTC only manages the important lines like interstate freight. Very many NSW branches closed long before ARTC existed anyway. I wonder why the QLD Government still funds maintenance of this line. Maybe the Southern Downs museum group chips in with some of the maintenance costs. Even so Charleville is maintained for a couple of passenger trains each weak, and the extension of a couple of hundred Km to Quilpie is kept going for a couple of cattle trains each year. It is rather wonderful though.

Queensland and it is raining and cold? Wasn't Queensland the sunshine super state🤔

Until you get near the far north of the state, Queensland has winter the same as other states but it is not as extreme. Nevertheless this ride was in mountainous country, and as you should know, the higher above sea level you go, the colder it gets, especially in winter.

If you go back and watch it again from the beginning, you will see precisely when it was made before you reach the first 15 seconds!
