I loved this demo. After having only painted in oils, I have fallen hard for watercolor. Your demos and explanations are so very good and very practical. Thank you so much.

Brilliant having side by side comparisons, thank you so much. Their both great examples, but definitely subtle differences. I find wet on wet somewhat easier than having to control dry paper ( it all dries too fast for me😂) but I’m inspired to do a comparison piece to see if I should have more courage with dry technique!

I'm so glad you found it helpful. The more you paint the more you will grow as an artist. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. It's the best way to learn. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Always remember it's just paper and coloured water.

Great video. The trouble with dry paper is I tend to get little run-backs when softening the edges with a damp brush. Some look ok but too many looks untidy. Thanks for sharing

To avoid run-backs just let your first wash get a little drier so that it's just damp and don't have too much water on your brush when softening and blending. Hope this helps. Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you for mentioning stretching. I always used to think you had to or the paper would buckle. I never had success, clearly I didn't know how to stretch it properly though I followed directions... What about your wet on wet piece on the left? I saw buckles forming with the paint accumulating in the buckles but it looks fine now? Ps: I'm really enjoying your tutorials, I can learn from your teaching style! Thank you!

What technique do you prefer for this situation? I see the advantage of keeping the paper wet to avoid backruns, but not achieving color intensity as easily. Thanks for the demo.

I don't have a preference. I use both techniques all the time. It all depends on the subject and the finish I'm looking for. Thanks.
