When we were young , we didn't understand why our parents felt so sad when their favourite market has to be closed down to make way for new development. Now as we have our own families , we know the sense of losing our friends we made in the market we have accustomed to visit when they are forced to relocate ... Many sellers decided to retired due to ageing , distance & higher rental in the new location. 🙏 Thank You So Much Uncles & Aunties for your Good Service over the decades ... Will remembered you guys in our memories ... 🕯🌷🌿🌍💜🕊🇸🇬

Government should always maintain the local wet market. Its a culture to the country. Without it, there is no culture in the country. Every citizens favourite and tourists. Its also to give poor citizens to do business and the poor and middle class citizens

Newly built HDB estates now do not have wet markets or hdb shop units, instead they have air-conditioned malls anchored by supermarket chains. This will probably add to more overhead cost to the rental for shops in future. Existing wet markets are not attracting younger shop keepers or customers due to sanitation and how old everything is. Actually wet markets can be viable and attractive, by improving the sanitation and have larger more presentable shop layouts; something more like Victoria Market in Melbourne, Borough Market in London. Have some nice asthetic zoning spaces for cafes, bakeries, eating places for people to relax and hang out. Also the government can help educate the shop keepers how to display their goods in an attractive manner minus all the clutter. These markets are an important birthplace of small businesses!

I disagree. Most youth nowadays will not visit the wet market after having been ripped off by unscrupulous vendors. One week, Nian Gao was sold for $2.80. The next, it was $3.80 at the same vendor! It is also not as clean or hygienic compared to NTUC, and not as convenient. With NTUC, we can shop in comfort after work, or even have the items delivered to our house. No need to go bright and early and queue up, or jostle around with people. Also, I doubt tourists are really visiting random wet markets across Singapore.

@@yizhitutu just because you don't like wet market, don't sabo everyone else who depends on it. Only you assume ntuc food is more fresh than wet market. Also my usa bf love our tiong bahru market and he will visit that market almost daily whenever he visit sg. Not everyone love to queue up at ntuc to pay their purchases. If no more wet market all hwaker use supermarkets supply then how much more will the price of hwaker food raise. Lol hope you children decide to be a hwaker or market seller. 😜

Why are they closing? With a right concept it could even be a tourist attraction. Singapore flea market was a tourist attraction, but goes into extinction already. Why? Look at Thailand night markets. It’s blooming and one of the attraction tourists comes specially for to see.

@@space4495 It was hanging up there for 20 yrs. The exposed cantilever steel structures can be easily strengthened or replaced with new, if it did deteriorate in time. Unless the problem was due to foundation instability or main structural columns issues that’s beyond repaired that requires the whole structure demolished, than there’s no choice.

Louis Chua “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” This saying is usually attributed to Albert Einstein, but one might argue also appears to be the current approach to the multitude of housing related issues we are seeing in Singapore today. HDB is prepared to launch up to 100,000 flats in total from 2021 to 2025, if needed. HDB will continue to monitor housing demand and make adjustments, where necessary.

One family noticed practitioners walking by in yellow T-shirts and asked about the practice. They then learned the first exercise and said that they could feel a strong energy field. Many passersby were shocked to learn about the persecution of practitioners in China. Ratikanta said he felt sad that people who abide by the principles of truth, compassion, and tolerance were being tortured. Preksha and Shruthi, two design students who read the information about the CCP’s persecution, said they found it disturbingly ironic that such a peaceful practice was being persecuted. After learning about China’s multi-billion dollar organ harvesting industry, Preksha said that she had watched a video interview of a Uighur refugee and former surgeon, Enver Tohti, so she knew about the organ harvesting crimes of the Chinese communist regime . A woman who runs a school and teaches journalism was interested in learning more about the persecution and how to create more awareness of the crimes against humanity. She said she would ask her students to write about Falun Dafa. Jagadish, the joint Director of the Horticulture Department of Lalbagh visited the Falun Dafa booth with his family and said that he was moved upon seeing practitioners’ dedication over the course of ten days.
