Toad’s Identity Crisis

blue spots on toad in smb2 is due to pallette limitations. theres a LOT of weirdly-colored nes sprites because the nes can only show so many colors on screen at once.

At least according to the European version of Yoshi's Island, the different Yoshis had unique names: Yoshi (green), Jonny (light blue), Sunny (yellow), Claudi (pink), Eddi (orange), Netty (red), Tommi (deep blue), Marci (purple).

Correct if I'm wrong but wasn't Captain Toad not being the same as OUR Toad confirmed as far back as Super Mario Galaxy where Captain Toad wears a red vest? Edit: Also, fun fact (or not): Toadsworth was actually supposed to be in the movie but was cut. Nuff said.

Honestly, i love the name "Little Toadie" and wish they kept it. If anything, i wish they gave each playable toad a unique name like Toadette and Toadsworth.

So apparently the Yellow and Blue Toads actually have names with the yellow one's name being Ala-Gold and the blue one's name being Bucken-Berry. (However some sites say that it was never confirmed by Nintendo so take that with a grain of salt)

What I think is that there are seven main toads (the original Mushroom Retainers), which can be told apart by the blue outfit despite being red toads (there are eight of them in Mario 64 and multiple in Paper Mario series but whatever), and in every game where we play as a toad with these features, he is one of the seven. Which one exactly? Who knows, maybe there is a different one each time. Using this logic, in 3D World, we wouldn't be playing as a Mushroom Retainer, but as a blue toad. Again, there could be a different blue/yellow toad each time

I made an interpratation of Toad the character where he became bitter and pretty much depressed because his parents didn't exactly like him (I'm not sure if you can mutually love your child and literally not give them a name besides just naming them after your species) and was somewhat bullied. I would have changed his name and/or design but it would have felt like making a completely new character, which I don't mind, but that wasn't the point of trying to make interpretation of Toad the character.

Remakes of Super Mario Bros. 2 always portray Toad with red spots, so it's pretty safe to say he's supposed to be the main Toad.

Nintendo just hates Toadsworth and most the other „unique Toads“ for some reason. They see a Toad that’s a small kid or a woman or something and go „absolutely not“. The Mario movie was supposed to feature Toadsworth and other unique designs, but then Nintendo came in and was like „no, they’re supposed to all look the same“ and that just makes me sad. If weird forgotten characters like Foreman Spike can be there, why not Toadsworth?

I wish the main Toad in the Mario Movie was named Captain Toad, there's more name & design variety from the freakin' Minions, Minions have more variety in terms of height & number of eyes; 1 or 2. & they have many unique disguise's. Meanwhile the Mario Movie just has copy & paste Toad's all over only having like 5 different colors from each other.
