I know this is an older tutorial, but I wanted to say I remember seeing your work on a bunch of GameDev tv courses I was going through. Just like with those, you have a very clear and easy to follow teaching style that I really appreciate. I've tried to get into blender several times over the past ten years or so, and your tutorials are the first ones that haven't left me feeling confused or frustrated

This was really fun to follow along! I love the combination of modelling in 3D and handpainting :) Was a bit bummed out by all the artifacts Blender introduced while painting, sometimes I discovered a polygon apparently painted through on the opposite side of the toadstool I was working on, which was then pretty hard to fix (with occlude and backface culling turned on).
@koljak9395
@koljak9395 2 жыл бұрын
Just found out why: when painting on the edge of the texture image, the brush wraps around and also paints on the opposite side - into some unrelated polygon. Should have left enough space all around!

Honestly ur the UK bob ross of 3d art. I just love how you will say things like "Theres a little bit of a glitch here but thats okay" in such a calm and warm mannor I very much enjoy your content and wish for you to continue. If you were looking for a new video idea there has been something I havent been able to find content for. Making stylized textures/materials in blender. Im pretty new so the best Idea I had was take a drawing and using one of your old videos turn it into a PBR texture but IDK if thats the best method or if there was an easier way with better results. Came out looking pretty decent to me but again im a novice so what do I know lol
@grabbitt
@grabbitt 2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean making pbr stylized textures?
@papasalvo
@papasalvo 2 жыл бұрын
@@grabbitt yes. I looked for that on youtube the only people who make this kind of content is stylized station but they use substance painter. SO IDK if there is a way to replicate what they do in blender. But everyone in blender that shows hot to make materials always uses realistic materials never stylized so I was starting to thing it just wasnt a thing then i found ur video on how to make my own PBRs figured I'd give it a shot with an illustatrion I had found of tree bark and it worked pretty decent

For those who are using 4.0, Texture Slots is now at the top horizontal bar beneath Shading, Animation, Rendering, etc. Also, The shortcut for color picker is Shift X, not S, and you have to hold Shift X while picking your color. The color wheel is now hidden and lies in its own tab beneath brush settings. I'll add anything else that is especially hidden if I come across more in this tutorial.

3:30 That's a really nice trick. I've always been annoyed at how low poly pixel games can make round shapes look so smooth with less polygons. If you look closely you can see the few edge of the top as here but you can't tell the rest how it looks smooth.

I like this video a lot as it's a good intermediate workflow. I can see why you need to use ctrl-i to quickly swap between selectable areas for painting. But if you have more than 2 areas, it becomes quite tedious. Is there a shortcut to optimise this flow ? Rather than 1/ctrl-tab, 2/select edit mode, 3/select new area (or vertex group), 4/ctrl-tab, 5/ select texture-paint and resume painting.

Hi Grant, thank you so much for these texture painting for games tutorials, I learnt a lot here. When I import my own models into unity, I use the built in unlit shader, but there is a need for some shadow to create more depth, however, when I turn off the unlit shader, the texture paint just doesn't look good any more, combined with the polygons of the model. Do you have any tutorials that mention how to render these objects in game please? Thank you :)
