The implementation of drive seem...cumbersome from word of mouth but may be easier when playing.

Its fairly straightforward tbh. The Rush (Drive) system works essentially like the Run gauge introduced in MK3 but with a few unfortunate caveats tied to it. It's use is heavily dependent on offensive movement (since the game has no forward or back dash) and most of the games Combos via dial up combinations tho most appear to all be repeated use of the of the same button press so nothing to really memorize. Unlike MK3 however, this game heavily penalizes you for draining out the gauge with a stun state. Also the games EX Moves drain a sizable portion of the Rush gauge for their access. Because most of the game's core mechanics are locked or tied behind the Rush system, I really wish the meter was placed in a more optimal location on the HUD as well as not being the same color as the life gauge (especially when both are paired right next to each other).
