Nice - The " Scratch and Dent " special's. My mom and dad had bought a Freezer with a very minor scratch for like 90% off of the retail price - that thing lasted 25+ years no issues at all. Enjoy your nice machine. :)

Yeah sometimes you can get a great deal on scratch and dent specials. My wife and I got a nice 6 shelf TV cabinet that had a small crack on the back side for 45% off. It took me 5 minutes to put some wood glue and attach a small L bracket to keep it from ever getting worse and my wife used a black marker to "paint" the bracket. It's been 15 years and 3 military moves and the TV cabinet is still as solid as the day we got it.

Man that's an amazing deal you got there. A friend of mine just recently took a similar shot with an "as is, no returns, no refunds" gaming PC on eBay where the sale listing said that the guy didn't know what was wrong and he didn't know much about computers so he just wanted to get rid of it. Unfortunately for my friend every single component in the thing was broken except for the case/PSU, the CPU and one RAM stick, lol. Motherboard was toast, graphics card didn't work, SSD was dead, one RAM stick was dead. Even the CPU cooler was dead. My friend basically got scammed out of 300 dollars. He was able to sell the one working RAM stick and the CPU for 100 dollars though so.. I guess he's only 200 dollars down.

There's a difference between a single or 2 items being bad, that's broken. It's obvious this guy swapped out half a dozen with bad parts. The guy got scammed.

I have bought a couple of "parts only" PCs on eBay over the last year, and had similar luck, minus the video card, the ones I got were iBuyPower prebuilts from the GPU shortage days, so they came with an RX550 2GB and a 1030 GDDR4 2GB. Otherwise they were solid machines for $100-200, one an 11400F system the other a Ryzen 3100. My repairs on both consisted of unboxing and pressing the power button. Both were risks though, as neither had specs listed, but I was able to make educated guesses based on model numbers and pictures, the 11400F was a big surprise, I was expecting a 10100.

If you are tight in a budget, it isn't that bad of an idea to get a broken prebuild. I wouldn't recommend buying broken parts unless you are confident soldering, but prebuilds are a different story. Oftentimes it's just one component that is wrong while the rest are okay. This is why I would recommend testing the power supply first, it's the only thing really that could have lead to catastrophic failure. Another thing, it might sound stupid to say it, but if you are going to purchase one of these, always ask for pictures first, you wouldn't want the failure to be physical damage due to misuse that you didn't expect.

I bought on that was crashing when games started and ended up figuring out who ever built it put in a graphics card that needed 300+ watts more than the PSU could supply. One new graphics card later and I had an excellent machine

I'm probably in the minority here that prefers the card system over the old SR system, like I just get stressed seeing the number go up and down and the card system has singlehandedly made me play more ranked. That being said, maybe the could just give players to option in settings to pick between the two? IDK how hard that would be to implement but that would make both parties happy

My system did the same thing when installing Windows the first time(and then getting the updates). In the past 2 years its never had that issue again, so it's quite possible its just a Windows update thing that can happen sometimes.

You do understand that laptops have a very limited upgrade path right? most of them, all you can upgrade is ram and storage. Once upon a time (more than 10 years ago) you used to be able to socket in a new CPU, but now that's a thing of the past. Heck most modern laptops even solder the ram and storage to the main PCB to save on room and money!
