My opinion: (don't pay heed if you don't want, nbdy's forcing you) nope, nope and nope. Range: listen to Lata, Shreya, Usha Uthup for lower range, Sonu Nigam (he's just a maestro), Shaan. Power: you might be right here, read end for more info.* But also try listening to Mahesh Kale. Tonal quality: lmao no. Indian Classical music trains all kinds of vocals. Maybe you just hvnt heard the right music. Shankar Mahadevan, Vishal Dadlani, Shreya, Asha Bhosle, Armaan Malik. *Indian music requires an absence of vibrato. The fluctuations of vibrato would be heard as actual different pitches, making the precise microtonal tuning of many of the scales and ornaments impossible to execute. With the importance of intricate melody and absence of harmonies, Indian singing technique emphasizes line and agility. This means that each and every vocal run you hear by an Indian Classical singer is not really a run, but a phrase of precise musical progression. The control and absolute mastery required for that is frankly astounding. I read an article by a Western music coach where she said that a performance by an Indian Classical singer was more fluid than some of the best opera singers. So while Whitney has more raw power in her voice, Indian Classically trained singers have wayyy more control over their voices and pitch. Also they basically all have "perfect pitch", as ear training is inextricably linked with learning singing.

Lata Mangeshkar IS 91 YEARS OLD (1929) AND STILL SINGING AS PLAYBACK SINGER FOR 20 YEARS OLD GIRLS IN THE MOVIES. There is a saying about her that "God gave her a gift of voice and what she made of that gift is the gift back to the GOD". This stage song was most probably done in her 80s..so just think about that..Justine, She is the Legend of the Legends. No wonder she is called the Nightingale of India. She has been singing professionally for the movies from 13 years old. She may be the oldest professional singer in the world (78 years of singing) and overall singing for 87 yrs. God bless her and I hope she lives for another 91 yrs.
