I'm a big fan of the Semogue 620. It's like a badger brush and a boar brush at the same time, best of both worlds. Takes a little time to break in. I love the aesthetic, design, has a perfect size/weight to it.

Your method of creating the lather straight on your face than in a bowl is mind blowing!

The 610 and 620 are not just different color. The 610 is a premium boar with a different percentage of hairs going all the way to the top. Pick up the 610 if you get a chance, it has become my best face lathering boar.

Enjoyed the video. Loved the alteration you make. Total sense. Have the Omega 49. Love it but a bit too large for my hand as I pinch the bristles when lathering. Just ordered the 620. After your video looking very forward to trying it. Keep up the good work.

Nick! That's why I tune into your videos, always interesting and always informative. I started using soaps but I have switched to creams. X-PEC unscented works amazingly well for me. Give this cream a try if you haven't yet and I hate a blade that isn't sharp, I toss mine after one shave!

Oh but I agree. TOBS leaves skin really dry and good idea for the pre shave soap. I'll try that as well

nick shaves just finished trying the Astra SP in my ATT S2. Wonderful blade! Best I tried so far. Looking forward to your vid on it! If you like Feathers try Kai. Just sampled them tonight and I must say they are as sharp, if not sharper than Feathers, however feels much smoother.

I'm not an expert but i feel that difference between soaps and creams too, anyway i see that when you use soap you use to load lots of soap (much more than i do) but when you use cream you use a similar amount, so maybe your slickness problems depend from the amount of cream you use. I will try different things too! Have a nice day

Slickness is very, very important to a quality wet shave! Creams seem to trade convenience for slickness. With a shavette or straight razor, high slickness is truly mandatory.

Nice! I haven't used TOBS in forever. Ever since I discovered artisan soaps, I've pretty much quit using the mainstream stuff. So far my personal favorite is Soap Commander's products. I also use Tiki Bar which are awesome soaps, Catie's Bubbles is phenominal and Barrister & Mann's stuff is highly addictive. Maggard's brand of soaps are really good as well and they're made by the lady that makes Through The Fire soaps. Nick you must try Soap Commander's Vision. It's epic.

Nice to see TOBS getting some love. Inspired me to use the sandalwood cream today as that was my first cream as well. Also liking the long video since you've been gone for like a week. Get the fix! And ohh do the Gillette 7 o clock super platinum as your next blade review. That's the black package one. They are way different than all of the other 7 o'clocks. Super smooth surprisingly or Astra blades. Thanks for the vid and keep it up.

I found with the TOBS you use a ton less product with similar or the same result by swirling the brush rather than digging it out.

Good solid shave tips! Shaving has so many variables that one shouldn't be afraid to change things up for comfort, closeness, and overall enjoyment. That was an incredible video! The pre-shave soap is something I don't currently have in my shave closet but I have three different shave creams I rotate into the mix, including T.O.B.S. Jermyn Street, for sensitive skin. Great stuff but I found if I used olive oil as a pre-shave on certain blades it helped. I never thought about the pre soaps, so you've opened up a whole new world to my routine! Thanks, that's what keeps things enjoyable. Very, very good video!

No razor burn is the main thing for me as well, but I can't seem to get rid of it on my neck. Do you use anything to exfoliate your face before shaving because I feel like that would help ? Any home recipes you use or any other opinion besides major company chemicals ? My facw is too sensitive for that crap lol. Btw, I see you have lucky tiger there in the mirror. I'd like to see a review on that, I'm curious to see what its like. Anyways, good video, nick !

Mike Campbell Hi Mike. I use to have the same problem. Here is what worked for me: a homemade mix of 1:1 olive and grapeseed oil to be used as a pre-shave oil. It does have a tendency to ruin lather but it's purpose is to lubricate and provide protection from razorburn, which it does effectively. After using this for appx three months my skin no longer needs the pre-shave oil. Hope this helps. Ymmv.

I notice on your first pass you almost always have an area on your neck where you do 2 or 3 upstrokes. Are you still shaving with the grain when that happens?
@nickshaves
@nickshaves 9 жыл бұрын
Yep! The hair on my neck grows up in that area, so to shave with the grain I need to shave up

Try using a less agressive blade like Derby or Wilkinson Sword. And try adjusting your shave angle.

610 has a different grade of boar hair. The 620 has clipped hairs that make it stiffer than the 610.

Just a quick question nick. After watching a lot of your more recent videos, you seem to prefer boar hair brushes rather then badger. Could you explain why? Keep up the great videos! EDIT: After watching more of the video, you actually say you prefer boar hair brushes more haha

I came across your channel about a month ago. Since then I have started wet shaving and love it. Thanks to you i now use a 34c, and have bought a semogue brush and some caties bubbles, sterling bay rum and PAA beach. Love your videos but you have got me hooked. Today I ordered 3 more PAA soaps, Tabac, Prorasso, arko, and an omega 1066 and a silvertip brush, and a Dovo Straight razor and strop. Also decided to try out some of the FINE aftershave in platinum. I must say it is fun making shaving a hobby instead of a chore. Thanks for the inspiration and all the great info. Who knows, maybe one day you can watch me shave on youtube. Keep up the good work, and God Bless -tpcobra729 from Bama
