My husband went to Iraq twice and lost 4 soldiers. 1 was his best friend. He has a Purple Heart from the the invasion. His battalion was the one that caught sadam. He was there pulling guard while the others went in. So I know the meaning of Memorial Day. It’s close to my heart. So thank you to those whose paid the ultimate sacrifice.

My grandfather was a major in the US Army. He fought in WWII and was one of the many who stormed the beaches of Normandy. He was the only one of his platoon to survive. He was badly injured but survived. Watching these videos is hard but I’m grateful to the men and women who fight for our freedom and have fought for our freedom.

As a former navy wife, after 9/11 it didn’t matter what branch you were in, we all stood TOGETHER, and when we saw the suv pull up to a home, we all knew and we were all there, NO ONE understands the sacrifice more than the families that “wait”. I still cry (bawl) when I hear this song, my heart breaks remembering what we went through as a country and what’s happening NOW, makes me angry, more than anything this is a disgrace to EVERY service member that served and sacrificed.

❤❤ wow! It's so cool that you use my comment. I am so thankful that my husband is retired now after 22 years in the Marines and the Army. We are enjoying our life on the homestead as retirees. My husband missed so much with our daughter who is now 16. My husband loves BTS with my daughter and they go to concerts together. I know my husband would do the same thing all over again, even though there were many sacrifices and PTSD. From a proud military wife, daughter, niece, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter from our family to yours much love! I love your channel and I've been subscribed since almost the beginning. Keep up the great work! Have peace and remember those who sacrificed so much for everything that we all have as Americans!❤❤

I spent 24 years in the US Army Infantry and did 3 combat tours in Iraq, I got that phone call once and was on my way home to Raleigh, NC to spend time with family over Christmas and had just passed Atlanta when my cell went off and was told you have to turn around, we just got mobilized. That was OIF 1. Toby is a True Blue American who loves and is proud of his country and loved our military just as much as we loved him. RIP Brother, Godspeed.

This song gets me teary-eyed every time I hear it. He has done so much for the military. He loved God, his country, his wife, his family, his friends, his fans, and our military. If you've ever attended one of his concerts, you'd know that he sometimes surprised the spouses at his concerts, or he'd call military men and women up on the stage while he'd play, Courtesy Of The Red White and Blue, American Soldier and American Made. He flew to Iraq to sing for the soldiers many times. He also sang on the U.S. Navy ships.

To my father, I will see you today to remember the comrades in arms that you lost. To all those who have fallen in defense of freedom, we thank you all. Be at peace, warriors, you are not forgotten. I'm a retired U.S. Air Force combat vet. Went to Iraq 3 times, not to mention deploying to places all over the world, like Kuwait, S. Korea, Saudi (2x), and the list goes on). The hardest part was not going. The hardest part was leaving your family! That hurts! Especially if you have little ones. But, to do my part to keep them safe, I would go, no doubt. One of the many things that military people share, when deployed, is that the majority of us are the "same", with families left for a while. We talk about our families to each other, and that keeps us both motivated and happy. I grew to know some dudes families quite well, even tho I had never met them! Let the "enemy" try to stop me, and my bro's and sis's, from being able to go back to our loved ones, and there will be HELL to pay!

I’m a 57 year old US Army Cold War era Veteran, so I never saw combat (thankfully) but constantly trained for it. I was single throughout my service, but seen alot of marriages either go through it or break apart. The families sacrifice alot too, we sometimes forget that, but shouldn’t. They say marriage is a 2 way street, but how well does it work when half the street is missing? Always away either training or on deployment. Even in my time, during a tense peacetime, we would “Go to the field” for weeks sometimes months for training. Respect to those families, friends, and citizens that support us in all that we do. “The price of Freedom is paid for by the blood of Patriots”- can’t remember who said it.

I was an infantryman for 20 years. I retired in 2001 about 42 days before the planes hit the World Trade Center. I was expecting a call back to return to duty they never called me back. I took part in the invasion of Panama Desert Storm and I was in Bosnia twice. Leaving home to deploy is always hard on the Family your wife is an adult she can comprehend the reason why you must leave. The children are too young they don't understand why dad must leave and is not coming home in the evening. I was a lucky one by The Fortunes of God I was always able to return home. My wife tells me I'm overly patriotic every time I hear this song it brings tears to my eyes😢. I suggest you look into the song have we forgotten.

GREAT REACTION!! Im a Army Vet who has been deployed 5 times that = over 6 years. The only time i didnt volunteer to go in harms way is when we went to Saudi to prep to invade Iraq 03. After the first time . I continuously kept volunteering to go back. I knew my job and the area like the back of my hand. i was scared for somebody who relieved us to not be as experienced. And i didnt want anything to happen to any of my brothers and sisters. I also have 5 sisters. So i wanted to do all i can to prevent them from having to go. Once i found out i was going to be a dad. I finally took a medical retirement that they were offering me for years. As i had been shot, stabbed, and blown up with shrapnel in my head. 3 injuries outta 5 major war deployments. not good odds. But i was lucky! I love everybody ! But more so, the ones who gave the ultimate sacrifice! you are my motivation everyday to be the best human and dad i can be! You will never be forgotten! Hooah! hopefully you 2 read this today (memorial day) ANd i would like you to react to.... 5 finger death punch - gone away ( with the music video ) .

The year we married May 2nd and he flew back around the 18th and we didn’t see each other until January 30 of the next year. That year he was in and out of sea constantly. The next year he was gone or had duty 284 days but we managed to have twins. He had shore duty for the next 3 years but then it was back to sea. Heck I potty trained the kids while he was gone and the day after he came home he was looking for diapers! You look so forward to them retiring and then you both realize how you miss it. He retired in 2000 and sometimes it feels so close but so far away. He’s my hero, my American Sailor.

My son went to Afghanistan for a year. We were so blessed to hug him when he returned. I have to say, there are no words to describe the fear in a mother's heart when her child deploys. I had nightmares nearly every single night where I watched my son die. I would wake up screaming his name. The photo of me hugging him upon his return was and will always be my most treasured photo. I will confess, I broke down in my boys arms, he hugged me tighter and said "Mom, I really missed you" and kissed my cheek. I can imagine that is the closest I will get to heaven without actually dying. God bless those mothers that didn't get to hug their soldiers again, my heart bleeds for each and every one of them, truly it does. ❤

Also, for Memorial Day remember those veterans who came home but then unalived themselves because of the trauma experienced while serving.

Your wife hit the nail on the head. This type of person is leaving us. These were men and women (volunteers) joining the military to do this for the ones that don't. Deployments can last over a year...pay sucks, and your work hours are 24/7 365 days a year. No lie...not exaggerated...I personally spent 20 years in the USMC doing just that. Whats heartbreaking is all the younger generations just wanting handouts and not willing to fight for their country. God Bless...your channel is fun to watch. Take care of you and yours...

This was my ringtone for my husband. He was a CSM in the Army National Guard for 33 years when he passed away unexpectedly 8 years ago. It took a long time for me to be able to listen to this song again. It still makes me cry but it's one of my all time favorites. Thank you for reacting to the song for Memorial Day.

I told my girl that she was free and left for my first of 3 consecutive combat tours in Vietnam. When I got home I was broken in many ways. She was still there and she helped fix me. We have a great daughter and superb grand daughter. We celebrated our 50th anniversary this year. I always felt that I was living for all of my buddies that I lost over there. I felt I owed it to them to live my life to the fullest. I think I did but honestly I still feel guilt.

GPa served WW2 and Korea, Dad was Navy, husband was 30 year MP in AF, 2 brothers Army & nephew did 2tours in Afghanistan and was injured and received a Purple Heart. So yeah, we love our country. Also, shout out to all the faithful men and women who are holding down the home front faithfully while waiting for their beloved to come home. Thank you for your sacrifices as well. As George Washington said, what sets the American Christian apart from all others is we will die on our feet before we will live on our knees! Though we seem divided right now, I assure you, if you come against us on our country, men/woman/child will fight to defend our nation. One nation under God!!!

Having served 5 years in a combat military occupational specialty, I was constantly out in the field, pulling guard duty or some kind of training. I had two sons 3 and 5 and I would come home from the field and my kids had grown, my wife looked different, my dog hardly recognized me etc etc. Soldiers sacrifice so much and work their asses off for poverty wages. God bless our soldiers and God bless America!!

I’m the granddaughter, daughter, sister, wife, niece, cousin and now mom of veterans and active duty folks. My direct family has fought in every American war from the French and Indian on down, a lot of blood, sweat and tears have been shed, by the vets and those who support them at home. It’s an incredible amount of sacrifice, the pay is…not much. They really don’t do it for the money, they do it for the love of this great country, the ideals it was founded on, that we’re all created equal, that we have inherent rights no government can grant or take away, that we should fight for those who can’t fight for themselves. It’s about being a part of something bigger than yourself, because some things truly are worth dying for. One of my fave quotes: “We sleep peacefully in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence upon those who would cause us harm”. George Orwell

I was on instructor duty at a Navy school in Upstate NY when Toby Keith came to the local amphitheater. Right before playing this song, he was speaking to the crowd and said "So I understand this is a Navy town?" and the crowd blew up. Then he continued on "and there's an airbase up the road?" More cheers. While singing, he changed up each verse "American Soldier, American Sailor, American Airman, American Marine." It was absolutely fantastic.

I can't count the amount of times that our sons and I had to say goodbye to my husband when he had to leave for whatever mission, exercise, our course he had to go to during our marriage (44 years now - 48 years together), but let me tell you that it is just as hard the last time as it was the first time. Now he's retired and I'm glad he made it home safe, but now have to worry about our sons (police officer married to one too and the other a firefighter). Regardless if that is American Soldier, it still hits home for a Canadian Veteran too. Thanks for the reaction, from Canada.

Every time I hear this song I think about the sacrifices families go through while their loved one is away. On another note any time I hear a patriotic song I think about a good incident that happened when I was a server years ago. A young soldier surprised his mother in the restaurant I was working at. The mother who thought her son was still over in a war zone was very surprised when her son approached her. As soon as I found out what was playing out in the dinning room I went and let the manager know, who to my knowledge comped the ticket for the family’s meal.

The kiddos looking through that fence brings back so many memories of deployments and homecomings. I was pregnant when my first husband deployed to Afghanistan the first time and got injured then the baby was less than a year when his second deployment began. Those drives home without him were beyond difficult. Had an MP check on me when i had to pull over from tears i held back until those buses left.

I wrote to Toby Keith right after I heard this the first time after I quit crying. I told him it was like he was sitting in my living room writing this. Every single word was our family at that time. Hubby was overseas at the time. I still cry every time I hear it. This time is no different. I'm gonna miss him. He's a legend.

Dont ever tell me about leaving my children. Without me and my military family, my children do not exist. I love my country and will do whateber it takes to protect it. The first time I heard this my dad and I were leaving the bank. He was getting things in order for my Aunt to take care of things because he was getting ready to go to Iraq. This song came on the radio and I got so emotional. Then my dad got deployed maybe a week or two after back in the mid 2000s. After he came back he had a heart attack and had to leave the military. He died almost 2 years ago this November in the hospital after he got in a car accident. I miss him everyday.

Thank you. Sebs, the TY was for doing this vid. I need to clarify something. "Memorial Day" is for those that didn't come home. We honor their sacrifice and that of their family. "Veteran's Day" is for all vets. I know it's trivial but I needed to say it. I'm a vet and this is NOT my day. (more trivia. My youngest g-daughter was born on Veteran's day. 15 this year.)

My daughter is married to a navy man. And when he is deployed, thats when im most proud of her. Im proud of him too, dont get me wrong. But she has everything on her at home, she becomes mom and dad, she has 3 boys and 1 girl. She works full time, she comes home cleans house, cooks and does everything. She also has a cat and a dog that is blind. She does all this and if you was around her she seems to have it all under control. But at the end of the day, when everything is done and kids in bed, thats when she breaks down, shes tired, she misses him and stays worried about him. Then the next morning she does it all again. I moved closer to her so if she needs help, im here and can help. But when you pray for our military say a prayer for their families, cause they go though a lot and could use a prayer or two.

I hate remembering the men, the brothers I've lost in combat. It's hard to listen to this song because I remember everything about those days. They haunt me almost every night. I hate myself most days for still being here. I hate myself for surviving and buddies came home in boxes. So many times I should've had my ticket punched and I made it somehow. Any ways, thanks for reacting. I want to thank any brothers that might read this thank you for service and I will see you all at the last rally point when we get there. Til Valhalla.

The Medal of Honor is the highest award for bravery in battle given by this country. Their stories of heroism & sacrifice are worth learning anytime but especially this weekend. One that may be of interest is Sgt John A Chapman. His battle was the 1st to be captured on camera that resulted in this medal. It is available on KZbin & will really make you appreciate our special forces more than ever. But fair warning...it's brutally hard to watch. Especially knowing he left behind a wife & 2 daughters. His family are in my prayers today.

I grew up a Navy brat. My Dad served in the Navy for nearly 30 yrs and there were times when he had to go out to sea for a period of time. I remember us being there waiting for him on the base dock when his ship would come into the dock when they came home. A cpl times we lived overseas when he was stationed over there like in Sicily, Italy, etc. but he still had to be away out to sea , sometimes weeks at a time. He served through the Vietnam era giving backup for the soldiers when needed. My Dad was a torpedoman. He also had 4 brothers who also served in the Navy, the oldest brother being the only one besides my Dad who was a lifer too in the Navy. My Uncle Charles was stationed on the USS Forestall when it caught fire and survived it. My uncle did 2 tours during Vietnam to keep the rest of his younger brothers from having to go, so they stayed on their respective ships and served from sea. So, yes, not only the servicemen/women serve to protect our country and freedom, all their families did their part too. Most especially the spouses.
