"Use failure as a lesson versus an emotional state" hits hard! This chapter I've changed a good bit of my strategy, as mentioned in this video. Used to, I'd hide and wait for opportunities to win the game, versus being aggessive and looking for fights to help me improve. Doing this has helped me win ALOT more games than before.
@frqde8 ай бұрын
Im very impressed with this Toby. This is pretty much spot on. It pains me to watch people spend 75% of their game looting just to die and go back to the lobby, and repeat everything again. You're 100% correct that every death is your fault to an extent, once you take accountability and actively make changes you will see the progression. You cannot just wait for everyone else to make mistakes so you can pick up the easy win, you NEED to get better at fighting.... my biggest tip is FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT... its just a video game, nothing is stopping you.
@cutemisskitty75687 ай бұрын
It's not your own fault when you die to a player that is camping at a spot where you can't see them. So the argument about "It's your own fault the way you die" dosn't hold.
@TobyWanShinobi7 ай бұрын
It is to a degree, you walked into that building and there may have been hints of someone hiding there, etc. You could have checked corners better, etc. I'm not saying that you can be perfect but if you take accountability you will find ways to improve in the future. If you don't, you won't learn from you mistakes because it "wasn't your fault"

After playing and getting eliminated a LOT in my first season of Fortnite (Chapter 5 Season 1), I actually change my focus and actually go in on the chaos and that ended up with me winning 5 Zero Build matches throughout the season and I don't feel bad about losing a lot of the time. I always tell myself that there is another match or another game and I will try and put some effort into playing better. You don't get good on your first match of the day, learning and having fun is MORE IMPORTANT than the victories. If you are not having fun, what hell of a game are you playing? I have learned a very valuable tip for any newcomer like me who wants to know to "git gud" at Zero Build or Battle Royale. If you think winning is your primary goal - nah ah! Your priority is *RUIN THE OTHERS DAY!?* Yeap, WIN THE GAME should NOT be your priority. You know how bad and gutted you feel about getting eliminated by other players, learn what got you into that and change your approach. EVERYONE that isn't you or your team can eliminate you, they are just as hostile as the bosses on the map. You need to make THEM lose and you need to give THEM the worst match and make them feel TERRIBLE! If you're sad from your recent elimination, take a quick breather and get into the clear mindset. If you're mad, do the same thing as you would with being sad and use that agression you built up on THEM. Of course, think about _predator VS prey_ .If you have a low kill count during the match and you decide to stay hidden and focus on loot, you will eventually be maxed out and you'll be forced OUT of hiding by the storm, like a bunch of captured prey who were forced out. If players find you looting without anyone else around, you're telling them that YOU give up and you're a terrible clutz - sending YOU back to the Lobby. Remember, you need THEM to go to the Lobby, NOT YOU! Your goal is to *RUIN THE OTHERS DAY* , not RUIN YOUR DAY. If that happened you in a match, remember the goal I said - *RUIN THE OTHERS DAY!?* Quickly get your loot when you land and start finding THEM. Focus on being the predator, NOT the prey. Every player is your prey that you need to hunt, some are VERY skilled and some are SHY as hell. If you hear a fight nearby, GO THERE! If there's a 50:50, interfere it and END THEIR MATCH. Third partying can be a VERY successful strategy to rack up kill counts. The two that started will have taken some serious damage. If you see a 50:50 that just ended, END THE SURVIVOR. They're weak! Only escape and hide if you took almost match-ending damage. If they're running away, CHASE THEM! Adapt as you go along, a predator will know a few moves ahead - just like chess. Remember, the most important goal for you is *RUIN THE OTHERS DAY!?* If you take every opportunity that is there like a fights, the loot, the bosses, the travel methods, and other important things like the weather towers... you will be as GOOD of a player as the ones that you see dominating the matches. If you lose after all of that, doesn't matter - YOU deserve a pat in the back for the effort. YOU should feel happy, YOU are having FUN! THEM, you just *RUIN THEIR DAY!?* and that is exactly IMPORTANT for EVERY match in Zero Build and Battle Royale, and it feels really rewarding + you get a TON of XP! You can see your match results on its tab the Results Screen regardless of your outcome of either you winning or you getting eliminated. You can even see all of the Accolades you got during the match. You get XP for a lot of your actions including popping a lot of the headdies, even more when you're holding a Victory Crown. You can tell if someone has it literally at the start of the match if they thanked the Battle Bus Driver. Gold text = Victory Crown. You don't need to previously have a victory to get it. When that player gets eliminated, they drop their victory too! If you win with it, it adds a counter to the number of matches won with Victory Crowns which gets resetted every season. You can see that counter if you have the Crowning Achievement Emote. If you don't have that emote, you get given that emote in your first Victory Royale with the Crown. If you get your first ever Victory Royale in Fortnite, you also get a neatly uncommon Umbrella as a Glider. My 1st Victory Royale was a Crown Victory. I was freaking out at that point too. I had about 8 elims at that time which is fine. The reason why I am pointing that out is that Fortnite's Battle Royale modes *_encourages_* you to eliminate players and you get rewarded for doing so. You should be focusing on Quests, especially the *_Survivor Medals_* . This quest is there every season and you get given a reward with different style unlocks, each style is unlocked once you achieve the medal. It goes from Common ALL the way up to Mythic. You have to complete 10 challenges on each medal stage. The Survivor Medals quests focuses you on NOT ONLY *surviving* , but racking up the *elims* and are done step by step, so once you met the conditions of it, you unlock the next step where it is the same thing but MORE! The Medal counts down from 10 to 1 on the stage. You get the style of the medal once you get it down to 0. You'll also unlock the next Medal. DO THESE throughout the season! It gets progressively more difficult, with one of the Legendary Medals quests requesting a Victory Royale. Use the strategies I mentioned and you'll get it in no time.

Game on. I actually had a victory that was an example of how getting comfortable in combat is important. Came down to me and a guy who used passive tatics to amass 4 medallions, he was setting one under a car and sniping people out of the driver seat from a nearby bush. He must've been loaded with Mythics and Legendaries. But when I closed the gap, and applied some juking and right shoulder peeks I've learned from this channel, I beat him with a Green Auto Shotgun against him using Oscar's without him even breaking my shields because he choked. One of my proudest Victories because I saw how important using tatics and getting comfortable is.

So, Toby, I was bored and couldn't sleep a few nights ago. I got five back to back solo wins, one was ranked. The best gun I had all those times was a purple, and it was an SMG; I don't care for SMGs. I was taking every fight I could and finished with a 20 bomb in my fifth lobby. I've become pretty aggressive and love going into fights, but when I discovered your channel during MEGA I was an anxious freaking MESS at all times. I decided to, as you said in a recent process, let the system doing its thing. That has been the best decision I made of my own accord around November of last year and I've learned a lot simply from watching your gameplay. That said, I will admit there are times I will avoid fights until the end because I know I'm good enough to win. Even when I do, I've become a much better player than I was even this time last year and I attribute a lot of that to your videos and advice. So thank you! I've gone from fearing Fortnite and end game, to now loving the game wholeheartedly.

This is great advice. In my games I try to pick spots that might or might not be contested off spawn simply because I hate getting into multiple fights without sheild or ammo. It's even worse If I'm being 50/50 for floor loot, I will loose the pick up battle 99% of the time. However once I've clear that POI I start being intentional about looking for players, I almost never play forecast any more. What you are saying goes back to conversations I've had with comp players where they've said basically "you have to learn to take what you have, not what you want, and make something out of it" Can you play a entire game never getting to a mod bench because you are so dependant on the mods to make the weapons useful? I've started trying this in some of my solos.

Oh my God Toby, yes yes yes. I have so many friends that argue with me that Fortnite Battle Royal is a "survival game.' But I agree with you that having this mindset of "I do better in the match the more I survive in the game. The better I am at surviving, the better I do in games. I just survive until the end and 50/50 the last fight. That is how I maintain my 10% win rate. If I maintain a 10% win rate, I am happy." I wince when my friends call Fortnite Battle Royal a survival game, or a hybird survival/shooter game. Some say that "Fortnite isn't a shooter."

Train in creative but take that to BR or Zero builds. Learning how to fight in those hot POIs is crucial. Funny thing is, good players coming with great loadouts in the end game did not go looting for most of those items. They pick them up from players they Elim. Here's another mental shift. If you can clear a POI of opponents... You've bought yourself a window to quickly loot whatever you'd like. In the end it's a more time efficient way to play. Take certain games and concentrate on Elims. NOT placement. Or, take several rounds to hit POIs you want to get better at fighting in. Once you know the Fastest way to land at Risky Reels and loot that weapon cache OR hit the other chests and Elim the player that hit that cache, your confidence will go up. And your options for drop zones also goes up. Also, I personally love the rush of seeing/hearing gunfire indicators. I will veer to go engage. Now, HOW you decide to enter that engagement still requires tactics and thought. But I love that thrill of running TOWARDS a fight. And knowing I have a good chance of winning if I use my skills. And if I lose, cool. Watch that play if needed and learn from someone that was either better than you, or the lose you inflicted on yourself due to your own mistakes.

I am used to play ZB squads with randoms teammates. Once they start dying, they immediately leave the game. Its really hard to 1v 4 in this situation and start engaging in combat alone. Therefore, you will have no choice but to play smartly by using slice the pie technique one at a time but it doesn't work with Top 0.1 squads because all of them will rush you at the same time. There are lots of techniques for combat, you manage to provide them in another separate videos which is quite useful. Thanks TobyWanShinobi!

It has given me a lot more confidence heading into the endgame, even with a non-preferred loadout. I now find myself frustrated when I don’t encounter other players for a long period of time. I see the count going down and know that others are reaping the best loot, and even more importantly, getting into a good groove. I’m happier when I arrive at the end game with 5-7 kills.

I agree with this to a certain extent. I am pretty much brand new to Fortnite and have never played an FPS or video games (aside from Mario Kart and RAID Shadow Legends) so the learning curve is steep for me. I definitely fall under the - land in low key areas and make it to end game then hope for the best - group (which I have won quite a bit doing). The problem is I am horrible at fighting. I think the advice to just jump in and start getting murdered every game is valid. But I also think Fortnite is one of those games that have a lot of nuances that go into actually being good at the fighting aspect of the game. Things such as the platform you're using to play, your internet speed/ping, and basic hand dexterity all come into play here. It can be discouraging to get pooped on every battle straight out the gate and even more frustrating when it doesn't seem to be improving even with hours pf play time under your belt. I suppose some of us need to come to the realization that, just like with sports, there are people who excel and others who should stick to a casual mentality.

I have been avoiding any battle royale games for years, because that was some of my friends play style, and absolutely hated those games. Now fortnite is one of my favourite games and all it took to start having fun was convincing my friends to go on a safari in the lobbies rather than win games. Initially, I died at the first encounter :-) but now I often have between 3-5 elims before I go out (typically because I do not heal, or reload properly, between fights). The game play has a completely different tempo, it is much more fun, the adrenaline is pumping, I still suck at aiming :-) but I'm learning to be more versatile in fights, reposition, look for weaknesses, utilize my current equipment. And that's frankly much more fun to practice than grinding at that darned Aim + Mechanics chore. (I'll never be as good in aiming as my 12 year old son anyway...)

I think it depends on what your goals are. The first thing you should do is set goals for your situation. Not everyone has all day to play Fortnite. In almost every game I play, I watch aggressive players, that are very good at combat, lose because they are so aggressive. I call this dumb fighting. It's a bad strategy, guaranteeing loses. Yeah, some players are so good, they can still come out on top, but why take the risk. Ultimately for me it's about wins, and what it takes to get more of them. This month, I been winning 20%. I've only been playing for a year, so I'm pretty happy with that. Next season, I'd like to average 20% wins. I would never play in creatives to get better, as I just don't have that kind of time. To me, if you are getting in fights that takes a pro player level to win them, you are getting into the wrong type of fights.
@TobyWanShinobi8 ай бұрын
If winning is what makes it fun for you, I hear you - that's great. But ultimately you won't be winning against players who have practiced combat non-stop and play smart when you end up in a 1v1 for the win. I am NOT encouraging 50/50 fights. Every fight you take, you need to find an advantage. But you won't recognize how to create advantages in fights unless you take a LOT of them in real game scenarios. A 20% win rate is great if it's solos!

Me, I'm a 3D artist that will be selling my animals and creatures within the Fortnite ecosystem soon, as I'm already selling on Unreal now. So, I thought I should play Fortnite and try to understand it a little. @@TobyWanShinobi

If someone told you they would give you 100$ per kill you would be 100% focused on getting each individual kill. If someone told you they would give you 1000$ per win you would be 1000% focused on not losing. The person with the kills would have more money and more wins because they are focused on a single constructive goal.

Great video. When I started think about the phases of the game (early/mid/late) and thinking that could be like a MOBA game, where you going evolving in each phase of the game, it helps me a lot. Let's think that when you finish among the last ten players, the match lasts on average 20 minutes, the phases can be divided into 7 or 8 minutes each. This helps me in the looting and fighting. I try to make earlier loot with close/medium range weapons and shield and try to locate more players, so I can eliminate then more earlier. In the mid game, its time to rotating and try to get better weapons if possible, but starting focus in the mobility, it could be in a vehicle ou a item. And again, get more fights 1v1. In the late game, I think having mobility and all kind of range weapons will be perfect, but, trying play with the map to your advantage could be very better.

Agreed my friend, the BEST way to get better is to do the thing you suck at over and over. The ability to be stealthy has a time and place, but for the most part if you are the aggressor you maintain the upper hand in most battles.

My daughter and I just tried Fortnite as a duo. 3rd, 1st and 1st. We moved in crouch mode everywhere and picked off people who were already fighting others or we'd get to the circle early, find a building and shoot everyone running from the circle lol Im proud of her, 8 years old, 72% accuracy and 13 kills.

Thank you for this video. I now have something to show some friends that started playing in the past few seasons. Myself I started playing Ch1S1, back in the old days of fort I used to run from fights, but after tilted came out, I started dropping there almost every game. I can easily say I got a lot better dropping there most of the time, as it got me used to dropping, getting a gun and rushing people. These days I average 20 kills per game, and am ALWAYS hunting lmao

Thank you for posting this video. Same applies to builds too put yourself into dangerous situations and don’t doubt yourself. I myself have a rule of 3. First I play the PEOPLE. Second, I play the TOPOGRAPHY. Third, I play the CIRCLE. But putting yourself out there as you said over and over makes you more experienced and are able to handle the pressures from multiple perspectives.

I listened to all your videos and it worked. When I’m in mid round or one of the last players standing. I’m pretty good and most of the time I win. Its just at the start. I keep dying. Everywhere I go, (especially the medallion places) people somehow get epic - legendary sniper or weapons so early on in the game I literally don’t even stand a chance. Like I have an uncommon weapon, and he has a 4x sniper. Who would win😁👍👍👍?? (Clearly the sniper person) LIKE I CANT EVEN SHOOT THAT FAR AWAY! I’m so mad rn. Please do a tutorial on how to actually start the match without getting sniped by lucky people so early on the game, (well not that specific) please do a tutorial on how to start the match properly. And most of the matches I play and die. it’s not even my mistake.

Great video. I think this advice is good and quite helpful. My problem isn't that I am passive. I luckily got that info that it is best to be aggressive so that you are not nervous in end game. So I hunt down players and look for fights. But my skills at fighting is terrible that I happen get killed a lot. XD And I unfortunately hate myself for sucking at Fortnite. So I go into the emotional state instead of analyzing why I lost. XD Or if I do analyzing why I lost, it is usual me saying, "I suck. That is why I lost." XD And then I just hate myself.

@TobyWanShinobi8 ай бұрын
120fps is ideal for close range fights... you definitely are at a disadvantage if you are only getting 60fps because you are getting less information per moment than your enemy.
