It really is good practice. I had a good few years without drums, and just played along to rock band vids, and when I got back to a set eventually, I was better than when I last played ahah

I dont even have any rockband equipment anymore but I do have a real set and Im still learning. I LOVE these videos because its so close to the original. I swap between covers and rockband/guitar hero to see how to play a song. They both show a lot but these you can pause and figure out fills so much easier lol
