It will get there… I saw my first clip this morning…. And it was like Rent, and Hamilton… you instantly know you are seeing a clip from something you have to hear more of…. This is going to sweep the Tony’s and become a movement because it resonates. Everyone knows someone who has a child who has it. I welcome the chance to see what life is like for them, and celebrating them in music that helps people understand is awesome.

It truly is such a great show, everyone is so well-cast and skilled in their portrayals. Quick food for thought: This is a cast of adults! "Kids" can be infantilizing and, in this particular case, just isn't accurate.

I'm on The Spectrum so please don't be offended by me giving my personal opinion. The saying, If you've seen one person with Autism, you've seen one person with Autism is quite true, but this musical flies in the face of that fact. Everyone here looks and sounds fairly similar and they all are about the same age. I'm over 50 and I feel left out in the cold. We autistics promote diversity but I see little of it in this musical. And the music is so one-dimensional. But bravo for trying.

The thing is, this musical is based on a documentary of the same name. The documentary was about teens and young adults. So, naturally, all of the autistic characters are going to be young people. Even if it doesn’t represent autism as well as some might’ve hoped, it’s a good stepping stone. Someone like you might see this and say “Wow! This left a huge impact on so many people! I can write something like this, but better.” Honestly, as an autistic person I’m just happy to finally see autism represented in a musical without being depicted as a burden or a tragedy.

Yes, I now see the show was derived from another source. I think my greatest fear is that people still won't understand what autism truly is and the diversity of it. But I guess my problem has to do more with human nature than it does with this musical. @@avalasialove

@@janjablonsky I understand. Autistic people still aren’t well understood in my area. Most of the available resources are for parents and their autistic children. This musical might encourage autistic people of varying ages to share their stories and advocate for autism acceptance in their environments.

My interpretation of them quoting "If you've seen one person" and saying "You're now meeting seven people," to me, was a nod AT the diversity of autism. How this is only 7 people's stories and they know autism encapsulates much, much more than just those.
