For everyone who is commenting saying Serena should have declined because she seems sad or didn’t wanna be there - consider being the greatest athlete of your sport and dedicating your entire life and existence at something and finally outwardly confessing that it’s all over. It’s not a happy subject to discuss, and she mentioned feeling sad about saying goodbye to tennis and how much she struggled with the decision to retire in general. Give her some grace for showing up and allowing us all the opportunity to hear her speak instead of walking away in silence!

Only been to the US Open once. While everyone was following Kournikova and watching her on the practice court, Serena and Venus were playing a doubles match. I had a really great seat. It was awesome. Little kids were chasing them around, at every opportunity. And at one point, Venus said - NO!! And that just encouraged the little kids to do it even more. Little kids loved the Williams sisters. Course. At that time, Venus was the one, who had won a grand slam. Arthur Ashe stadium nose bleed seats are not why you go to the US Open. The smaller courts have the action. Wow. That was a long time ago.

Please don't mention Margaret Court in the same sentence as Serena. She was NEVER mentioned when Graf held the most slams in the Open Era. Court only started being mentioned when Serena passed Graf. It's so disingenuous and stupid. Court was playing in Aussie Open when it wasn't even the Aussie Open and nobody was actually playing the tourney. ALL tennis players agreed for years, including Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Chrissy Evert and so forth that Court's record was inflated and not representative of the sport. But, only when Serena threatened to overtake Graf did everyone started ignoring the facts. Get out of here. I turned this off as soon as I heard them mention Court's bullcrap record.

Have they broken down ethnic barriers and used their platform to highlight social issues? The answer is no . I love the fact that she says she already has the record because she honestly does. I don't think court won even 10 grand slams with a draw of 128 players.

There will never be a athlete like the Williams sisters . Venus I watched and admired for years. Then little sister Serena was awesome good player. Dramatic. Daredevil. Outspoken. Innovator in changing the women in tennis dress. One of my all Time favorite athlete's Serena and Venus opened door for women in sports especially tennis, have to remember Serena is one of the best in tennis championships but Venus opened door for Serena!
