I cried when I first watched this movie I still cry watching it to this day. especially Zac Efron and Zendaya's parts cause even in this day My fiance and I still get weird looks by some people when we are out cause they don't agree with us and our interracial relationship, since I'm African American and Creole and he's Caucasian. Bella Harley , but look at the time the movie is set in. From slavery time until the late 60's / early 70's there have been lots babies born from white fathers (most non-consenual relationships) and the child was always considered black. It wasn't until recent history that there are true interacial relationships where both parents recognize their child. Those kids today get to identify with both sides of there family and most choose to say they are mixed but many still feel and identify as black.
