teenagefever you're WRONG!!! All of her calves are at SeaWorld except one. She's in Spin at Loro Parque. All of the whales there belong to SeaWorld except maybe one. In Texas she lives with the new calf and I believe two more of her calves which are older now. There's another in SeaWorld Orlando.

Yep as far as I know the only orca born in captivity and has survived was orkid and her mum died when she was about 2-4

Takara spent her forced adult life being inseminated and traumatized at the separation of her 4 other calves they took away from her to sell. She'd mourn and scream long distance calls to figure out where her baby went for days up to a week. now after all the backlash they decide to cherish a baby before ripping it away from its mother.

Notice how they are alone in that tank? The other 4 calves were taken away to other tanks or other parks. In the wild, they calves would stay by their mothers side. Sea world says that they give the orcas the best care possible, but they really just want money. They can do better.

The point is the poor thing should never have been born into captivity in the first place! A better situation would have been mother and calf to be slowly moved to a sea pen where they could at least have some semblance of a natural stimulating life nature intended for them, and possible be trained for release into the wild at some stage.

There's nothing "bittersweet" about ending an artificial breeding program to produce more orcas for human entertainment purposes. Breeding artificially, collecting and selling sperm to other sea parks around the world is unacceptable. And that trainer needs to know that the orcas' well being both physically and emotionally comes first, not research.

Its a huge corporation that only wants money in all honesty, stop talking like it's one kid who "made a mistake". They are literally the cause of a good handful of deaths in trainers and animal abuse that they have blatantly lied about in court and have only decided to shut down because they lost money. The baby should be around a pod, which Orcas need, but instead its held in a pool doing shows so I wouldn't talk about healthy. Seaworld has done very little to help Orcas.
