Seeing wild otters is always a good omen! It's a great thing to see thier populations starting to spring back some! Naturally a part of the ecosystem obviously! And a 43" musky is nothing to turn your nose up at! I'd be happy to catch one! Conditions have been tough here!

You guys rock. I'm in Washington state but have a home in new Auburn. Never caught a muskie yet my parents live in Hayward. I miss my first chance up there in August when I was out there. Can't wait to get a chance to fish with you guys.

I ran into some of your friends at a boat ramp the other day and I was so excited to meet some of you guys!!! I was definitely being a fan girl a little bit but they were so amazing and helpful! I hope I get to meet you and Lee one day here in Michigan!

That was a very nice fish. Seeing you guys miss the hook set got me thinking back many years. I was sucker fishing with a friend for big pike. He got a hit on his sucker, waited a bit and set the hook. He had his hands full for a couple of minutes and we were excited thinking he had a very large pike on. No muskie in this lake. He gets it to come up off the bottom and I'm waiting with the net. Look into the water and what to my wondering eyes should appear? A big snapping turtle. About the time I was wondering how to handle it it opened its jaws and let go of the sucker. It was never hooked fortunately. I had a similar experience on a different lake that when I set the hook my rod doubled over and I felt heavy weight for about 1 second and then my line was cut clean. No muskie in this lake either. At first I thought a big pike cut me off but on further reflection I now think it was another snapping turtle. Never saw what it was so I really don't know but I tend to doubt that there was a pike big enough in that lake to have felt that heavy and cut me off that fast. The point being, some of the sucker hits you get might not be fish. Keep that in the back of your mind for future reference. I'm not saying that a turtle hit your suckers in this video, Robbie. It's just a possibility when using suckers.

It looks to me that your setting the hook straight up and not letting the fish swim away from you. Hard to tell from the video but that's what it looks like to me. If it was easy everybody would it.
@ericsfishingadventures44335 жыл бұрын
It's a little more complicated than just setting the hook straight up with a sucker rig. These guys have a lot more sucker fishing if you check out thier channel seriously some of the best musky anglers on KZbin! I've learned a ton from them!
@esoxaddict5 жыл бұрын
@@ericsfishingadventures4433 I believe I've seen every episode they've posted and sucker fishing isn't really that complicated.

@@esoxaddict OK I believe I have as well. Wasn't trying to offend you just trying to help someone out in case they didn't know? Maybe? Thanks for the reply.

@@esoxaddict and your right probably not to complicated but expensive. Musky fishing is crazy addictive. I've spent way too much money for this sport but I love it!

And hey sorry about the all the comments. But at least those fat muskies got a real meal out of stealing your suckers! Lol just my opinion but sometimes I feel that musky are more intelligent than we know!? That's why conservation and responsible fishing is so important. Just so we can learn and study these species and others! Great video as always!

A Muskie with an $11 sucker in it's mouth. That would be a $23 fish... in Illinois. :)
@thatsmallrockshop5 жыл бұрын
Just give them a while longer to get the sucker turned around. They have a tendency to turn them around and eat them head first. And if you dont want to give them that extra chow down time hook your suckers back wards yes you heard that right hook the tail end first head end last so they can eat from the head side first and get the hook into thier mouth quicker .been doing it this way for years now and have never lost a fish hooking them up tail end first. Will need a differant rig then you usually use though lee could figure out how to make one no problem. Give it try next time thank me later. And please keep the vids coming it helps me get through my lulls while bait making.

How about hanging a siwash hook on its head, point facing away from its tail? All the experts say that Musky turn the sucker to eat it head first. I suppose you may gut hook ‘em, that’s not good. I say FISH - ON!!! If you caught every fish you ever met you’d probably quit cuz it would be too easy.
