Hi! I am a 64 year old woman and I followed your instructions to the letter and I just replaced my sprinkler head successfully! My old sprinkler head was a mess and needed replacement, so I purchased one. I foolishly installed the new head when there was still water in the sprinkler hole - rookie mistake. Of course no water came out - it was completely clogged. I waited a couple of days for the water to dry up, took out the new sprinkler head, and disassembled and cleaned it according to your instructions, and then reinstalled it. It works wonderfully! Thank you for being such an amazing teacher! 😃

Nice! I like to run the sprinkler for a bit with out the head if doing a replacement. This way it clears out the pipe which may have dirt in it from the removal.

Great video which will really help your viewers! I have installed several systems and always made my own repairs for 40 years. The only suggestion I have for the KZbin Viewers is: Often, when you attempt to unscrew the cap, the WHOLE BODY rotates instead of JUST the cap unscrewing. As you know this causes the body to unscrew from the water line connector (for the sprinklers that have the threaded connection on the bottom). So I typically dig down a little bit to expose a portion of the body, grasp the BODY with the channel locks and then using a second channel lock to unscrew the cap. This ensures that ONLY the cap unscrews and not the body from the water supply line.

To prevent mud clogging up your sprinkler, i suggest using a cut off piece of PVC piping (in Europe we use them for sewage and drains) and dig it in around the spriknkler to the sprinkler is in the middle. The void between the sprinkler and pipe you then fill with little rocks. This way you have clean space around your sprinkler, even if it leaks water it never gets muddy and thus dirty. Learned this from a gardener.

THAT IS A GOOD IDEA... especially where the ones that get broken also if you ever cap one sprinkler off always put a coin or maybe a metal washer... just so you will be able to find it... always have sprinkler people give you a sprinkler layout or take pictures. its not fun trying to find them 10 years later.

My BEST improvement was installing a wifi sprinkler controller. This way I can test my sprinklers and repairs without having to walk all the way back into my garage (where my control box is installed) and then back to my sprinklers. It's a game changer. It also allows me to turn off my sprinklers from anywhere if it starts to rain. AND, there are some pretty significant rebates on many wifi controllers from state or local government programs (I live in CA).

Mothering job is 24/7- but, for your braincells, let's call it her FIRST FULL-TIME JOB that sometimes leave many a sleepless nights as well. Workforce job (PAID) would be HER SECOND FULL-TIME JOB. Her household upkeep, laundry, plus grocery shop & prep would be HER THIRD FULL-TIME JOB. Emergencies or issues such as addressed in this video aren't common events that allow a SINGLE mother the time or financial resources to handle so she must learn to do what she can on her own! Already impacted time & emotionally with THREE full-time jobs but with only ONE paying job...it is perfectly acceptable, even honorable to mention "single mom." I expect all helpful-channels feel a deeper satisfaction they helped an already OVERWORKED woman. All I can say to YOU (commenter) is "WOW!" (smh...in disgust!)

As someone who works on irrigation systems for a living the reason the head isn’t right on the cement is because when you edge it will chew the heads up also why not use a 15 quarter nozzle instead of the adjustable van nozzle you will get better coverage with the regular nozzle

Jon, if I may I had a few quick questions - 1) I have an adjustable spray head in the same exact spot as shown in the video - I want to water the thin grassy strip across the sidewalk and adjacent to the road - should I replace the stationary spray with something else or perhaps change out one of the other heads in the middle of the front lawn to a rotor and let it "arc" over the sidewalk onto the strip? I don't have any piping in the strip areas to put a sprinkler. 2) Assuming like-for-like pop-up height, GPM nozzle, etc. can we interchange sprinkler brands? I think all of mine are Hunter but I have seen videos were people like Rain Bird better. My controller is a Hunter Pro-C. And 3) how do we determine the PSI of our irrigation system easily (and where would I do it?) I am fairly handy with tools, etc. Thank you in advance.

Working with a customer that had 12 heads on a 1" valve. He's got rocks in the line from a repair he did himself. However he barely had enough pressure to run the heads when in ideal conditions. So can't get the system to flush the rocks out. I think I'll try shuting all the nozzles off and try flushing the two or three clogged heads. I design a system with a 1" value to have no more than 9 spray pop-up heads to main tain optimal pressure.

Sprinkler heads that are properly installed and are well taken care of will last years and years too come. The brass heads might of lasted long but came with their own problems when it came to servicing them. when it came to calcium build up and the galvanized fitting fusing with the PVC fittings making it sometimes impossible to replaced was very expensive. Been doing this for over 15 years and i went through the transition and had my fair share of brass sprinkler heads needing replacement. I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy.

During the first part, you could have tryed to remove the nozzle and take a hose and wash out the tube. Mine was full of dirt that was clogging everything up. Then blow into the nozzle to make sure its not clogged and wash it out. Reassemble and take hose and shoot water into tube to make sure it comesout of nozzle. I had my concrete driveway replaced with pavers and a bunch of the supply lines got cracked or broken and the funny pipe and sprinkler heads got broken by the landscapers running over them or using an edger that cut through the funny pipe since the contractor didnt bury everything deep enough. Sucks that I live in an HOA that controls the sprinkers and can only tell if there is a problem when the sound of gushing water wakes me at 3 am.
