it's easy to get so caught up in the hilarity of Todd's music and stories, and sort of forget what a wonderfully gifted songwriter he is. this is still heartbreaking all these years later. rip eddie

What a rich history of talent. Billy lost a couple fingers when he was young. Lost his son eddy who was a country guitar master. Todd had a heart attack on stage that almost took his life. Every time I see this performance you can hear and see the loss endured by him. Beautiful.

Best of Todd....still shakes me to the core! Love this song

This is maybe the most heartbreaking performance I've ever seen. I usually hold it together until the end, when he quotes "Old Chunk of Coal." Then I just completely lose it. Just devestating.

Todd Snider - one of the kindest hearts in the biz we call show. You can be talented and create beauty without being the shallow fools we are handed daily as "stars". Carry on, barefoot bodhisattva! Walk in Peace, lil buddy!

The stories we could share. I'm a big fan of both songs too. I used to play train song in a spot where the train would come through blaring at 4am. I held down the fort while my cousin was in rehab.. He fought hard, but I lost him later to careless law enforcement. Probably as the trains came through. I miss him a lot too. We miss em all a lot. The sweetest nicest person going through hell.

Brian ~ It sounds as if you have created a warm and loving home in your heart where your brother can reside in safe harbor at last. That is truly a gift. I am so sorry you suffered this terrible loss . . . we expect our siblings to live through our lifetimes with us. So painful when that expectation isn't met. Blessings 🕉️

I had the joy to sit down and eat a few tacos with Billy& Eddy about 1998 on St. Simons Island Georgia. They were playing at my cuzs club "Rafters". They sat with us for about an hour bullshittin' and cuttin' up. Oh yea we did burn a Tator before the night was over.

Yellow rose, Waco moon Quit too late, you're gonna die too soon Woman with a needle and silver spoon Holed up singing the devil's tune Playing the blues, Paying your dues, Speeding your young life away I never will get over what I heard about you The first thing New Year's Day I can't say I felt so sad The truth is, I think I'm mad At the selfish way you left your dad When you know what a hard-luck time he's had Sleeping through A dream come true You just threw all that talent away I never will get over what I heard about you The first thing New Year's Day Ooh, slipping away Ooh, New Year's Day I threw the phone against the wall Falling apart when I got the call Went out walking with the weight of it all That's when it hit me like a waterfall I'm playing the blues, Paying my dues, Speeding my young life away. I never will get over what I heard about you The first thing New Year's Day. Ooh, slipping away Ooh, New Year's Day Yellow rose, Waco moon Quit too late, you die too soon To the bitter end, tried and true, Goodbye old friend, we'll be missing you

Lord. What a devastatingly haunting and beautifully emotional song. It's more than a song, really - more like a defining moment in someone's life. Todd can make me laugh and smile all day long, but sometimes, when I need a reminder to be kind or appreciate what I have in this life, moments like this reach out and touch me, and just break my heart. Now I gotta go hear the 'hallucinogenic drug football story' for a laugh. Thank you Todd!
