@@Waclawable Underrated by the drumming community because he's not the household name (from a drumming community) standpoint as many lesser drummers are! I'm surprised when I mention Todd's name to a fellow drummer and they have never heard of him.

@@binkwood Yeah, I would be very surprised too. This is probably marketing. But, in my opinion, if you are interested in drums globally, not only in jazz, not only in metal, it's so hard to miss this master :) I hope these guys saw him in Drumeo lesson :)

Well, he is playing in a large, open room, which is not treated with sound dampening and mics for the drums to be compressed and isolated. Plus, it was recorded probably on an old phone or tape recorder which doesn't help the overall sound at all. And while it does sound like what you suggested, it is done with a high level drummer's vast articulation and knowledge of the instrument.
