Ashley Johnson did a great job about this with Fearne in Exandria Unlimited. Fearne was a peaceful person, and Ashley took that peacefulness to it's extreme. Lmao It was so fun to see someone play a character who was AGGRESSIVELY at peace. Lmao

Something else to remember when roleplaying fey characters: Tinkerbell in Peter Pan (the original) only had room in her small body for one emotion at a time, so it may help to channel that when playing a being of pure emotion.

I love the way the fairy was done as a "template". I've been interested in fey creatures and folklore my whole life so it's exciting to be able to make a huge variety of characters based on different things. The first fairy character I made with the UA was a small creature, kind of like a brightly colored halfling covered in flowers, with a little unicorn horn and a little tail. Very cutesy. And then pitch black eyes and sharp teeth, for that hint of unsettling that I feel is necessary for any fey being.
@AAron-gr3jk3 жыл бұрын
So let me get this straight. The Shadowfell is like being in a cemetary at night: its dark, spooky and quiet. And you might get surprise attacked when you least expect it. But the Feydark is more like a Riot: it's a kind of party, but stuff is burning, there's looting and people are running and screaming and you expect to be attacked by anyone

I am not a fan of accidentally crossing the vail into the Feywild. When that place goes wrong it really goes wrong. I'd rather take the cold darkness of the shadowfell then be constantly paranoid about what chaos is going to be next. Let alone dealing with a happy, mischievous fey who pulls a "harmless" joke on the party, making us all lose our names.

For my run of WBWL I'm treating the Fey Wild as a SNES/N64 style setting. That you walk into a video game world of high contrasting bright colors, with mario~esq backdrop. Environments will make sound effects. First thing through to portal? Greeted by a broken/static automated greeting/tutorial on behavior while in Presm.... *zzzzrrt* HITHER *zzzrt* Going to work hard to make it a throw-back style to our SNES classics.

Best part, party needed to get somewhere and they decided to put the fae rabbit in their bag of holding with all their stuff. QUESTION: my group and I are excited for more Feywild content and we're reviewing the Fairy race. As such, we're taking a hard dive into Enlarge/Reduce and a player had a great question. "What if one fairy casts enlarge/reduce on a medium sized creature, making it large. And then another fairy casts enlarge/reduce, trying to make it small?" Does the creature: A) Remain Large - since spells don't stack B) Become Small - since spells don't stack, but we take the latter casting C) Become Medium - Medium +1 size and -1 size
@rachel4339 Жыл бұрын
So I’m sure this isn’t relevant for you a whole year later lol but in case anybody else (like me) reads this and is curious… Because it can’t be under the effect of the same spell at the same time, it would remain large, until the first fairy’s concentration is broken or the spell ends.
@luka2784 Жыл бұрын
@@rachel4339 Actually it would become either small or medium. If the same spell is cast with the same potency, than 'the most recent effect applies if the castings are equally potent and their durations overlap'. In terms of the other (non size effects), the result would definitely be that the character now only gets the benefits/drawbacks from being small, and none from being large. However, their are two options with what happens with their size. This is because the growing/shrinking effect of enlarge reduce is not continuous and only happens at the start of the spell, as shown by, if your growth is stunted when you first grow due to small space and then you moove into a larger space, noting says you now grow to full size. Option 1: The new spell takes effect first, shriking you down to medium. Then, because you are under the effects of the same spell twice, the old spell drops, which would decrease you in size but you are already medium so nothing happens. Option 2. You are considered under the effects of the same spell twice before the new spell takes effect so the old spell drops, shinking you back down to medium. Then the new spell takes effect, and as you are now medium, you are shrunk down to small. I think either of these are viable interpretations and It would be up to the DM to decide which.
@rachel4339 Жыл бұрын
@@luka2784 my misunderstanding... RAW does say that if the second spell of the same name at the same level is successful, the previous spell is ended as the second one takes over. Because they do not exist simultaneously however, as per the preceding sentence, I would rule as the first ends you return to normal size, but immediately afterwards you shrink down to small as per the effect of the second spell. That would be RAW.

The removal of the pseudo-tiny size ability is very disappointing to me. I mean, they replaced it with the Enlarge/Reduce spell, so now you can actually be Tiny, so it kind of made it in, but still
@thebeanz78383 жыл бұрын
@@deadpoolrwbyfan8419 I was hoping for the Tiny, and I was hoping for one of those Fey like Racial Traits. Kind of like what elves and satyrs have. Yeah they got a spell, but they don't exactly have that feat to squeeze through stuff. I kinda feel like they were afraid of making the race too powerful, so they made it on the weaker end. Don't some Races have options? Like, pick this feat over another, maybe some actual customization for the race that matters would've been cool.
@simonfernandes68093 жыл бұрын
The UA Fairy was seriously overpowered. I have a player in my current campaign playing a 5th level Soulknife Rogue Fairy and she is really enjoying the character. It's very entertaining to watch and the Enlarge/Reduce ability is working well. I think - seeing it in actual play - that the Fairy is absolutely fine.
@deadpoolrwbyfan84193 жыл бұрын
@@thebeanz7838 Not really, no. The only semi-customizable races would be Custom Lineage, Variant Human, and the Simic Hybrid. I feel like there are a few races that should have been customizable, like Reborn or Warforged. The reality is, Wotc is never going to make a Tiny sized player race for 5e because they have a bizarre aversion to the idea. I don't know why, but they're stuck to Small and Medium for whatever reason. As for the Fey racial traits of elves and satyrs... I can't say I disagree. If ANY race should have the Fey Ancestry, it's the gods damn FAIRY.
@5-Volt3 жыл бұрын
They are still a non-humanoid race with a fly speed. Are people forgetting that? Also having Faerie fire is a nice spell and I personally prefer having enlarge/reduce to the squeeze through 1-inch gaps thing. Sure it's less flavorful but has more utility.

"We often send out stuff in UA that we know is overpowered..." Please don't. Players see this stuff and then want to play it, in that overpowered form.
@richtercarlsen62893 жыл бұрын
I know, right? I can see why they would say aspects of the UA fairy were OP (they were), but the final version felt a little watered down. For instance, I wanted to play a fairy knight in full or half plate, not to be a mobile turret at lvl 1, but because I liked the aesthetic. I’d even take a breastplate. As is, a fairy can’t fly in med/hvy armor at any level (not without other means at least). At least let it scale?
