I totally agree with you Missy, they are only young for such a short time. You are doing everything right with Ollie and Fin. They are in school for such a long time, you don't have to worry about teaching colours and numbers and yes in the every day things they learn those stuff without sitting and drilling them! I agree with you, Missy about how so much more learning happens when they are just playing. I never intentionally taught my kids numbers, letters, colors, etc. but my almost 2 year old knows colors and can count to 10 just from playing games like hide and seek and pointing out colors when we are out and about. Let them be little and there are lessons to be learned in all types of play!!

Hi Lanning family! I felt I wanted to say something after watching Missy talk today and seeing the comments on your update with Ollie. As an early years headteacher it is absolutely refreshing to see parents understand the value of early childhood education and play. As Ollie gets older he WILL learn to count, read and know his numbers. Children are natural learners and it is an absolute given that in his own time Ollie will develop his understanding of what many people see as the pillars of a successful education. It is the things that he will learn at this young age through play and exploration, however - everything that you were so confidently explaining- that will give him the confidence to become a lifelong learner. Problem solving, imagination, independence, creativity, physical and social skills - these are absolutely the most important things for young children to develop, and the best way for this to happen is through play. I applaud your amazing parenting! Miss Blackwell :)

I think your plan sounds awesome Missy! Some little ones just don't do super well with the dentist (to be honest, even for adults, who wants fingers in your mouth of some dentist that smells funny and might drill into your teeth?! haha) But incorporating play time and getting him comfortable with the idea of opening his mouth up and "playing dentist" sounds like a great way to maybe ease into it! :) Also Amy seems super chill!

@DailyBumps I have a new kitten and the only real way to get them to learn to stop doing naughty things is to have a spray bottle on hand. Get a spray bottle and fill it with water and when Zuri is doing something naughty spray her and she should stop. Soon enough all you will have to do is say her name and show her the bottle and she will get the hint. My kitten Cuteness does the same thing to my dog. And so far the spray bottle of water worjs great. But remember only spray her when she is doing something naughty not before or after.

Tinternabbess. Every child grows at their own pace. Some people even wet the bed till their 10. Some walk by 6 months. some dont till over a year. And thats just how it is. I even babysat a 5 year old who had trouble reading. I was a bit concerned but its none of my business to be frankly honest. I did help the kids as much as I could.
