You see, people always think gentle parenting means letting your kids do whatever they want. What it really means is setting boundaries with your kids clearly and with compassion, not screaming or hitting. Kids are still learning to regulate their feelings and understanding why things are the way they are. All screaming and hitting does is instill fear into your child and that just breeds an anxious, frustrated kid who doesn’t trust their guardian. It’s not easy considering the fact that you as the adult have to learn emotional regulation first, but it’s worth it.

@@sophieschonfeld2943 well, thats like with every other thing. People are telling they are teaching good Christian lifestyle while doing the most unholy things to their kids or themselves. Or say they eat a healthy diet while eating a ton of meat and sugar. While the definitions that people have of certain things may vary, that still doesn't make the thing itself less valid just because some individuals mess up.

Why not buy him some kid size brooms? They even have small vacuum cleaners, mops & sweepers. Make him his own "clean up kit". Use non-toxic sprays in smaller spray bottles. Boys especially love those for some reason. Cut a roll of paper towels in half. He's the perfect height to clean off the fronts of lower cabinets & bath tubs. And his little brother is old enough to help with putting shoes & coats away. Make it a game with a ticking timer & challenge them to "beat the clock". There's even really cool step stools so kids can help with dishes safely.

Key is to make it more positive once he’s getting the groove of it. Maybe get him a small broom and dustpan to help and his own little container of spray and a microfiber cloth cut down to his hand size. In montessori they make cleaning part of their play and have tools and utensils to help make the jobs more easy and part of play. Good luck with him learning self regulation. He is learning with your 1,2,3 so clearly your time outs have made impact.

There's all heavily edited. We see what she wants us to see. We never see the tantrums or how she actually deals with them. We only see the aftermath of the "tantrum". I watched one where the baby was on time out sitting on the bottom step of the stairs. If was edited so heavily I wondered how long the child sat there. Of if against her rules he kept getting up and was put back down again.

@IsaDCTV I would think of 2 scenarios. The first the kid feels that his mom is also in emotional distress. We never really like this kind of situation. The other case can be that the kid wants to help his mom deliver the consequences, the 3rd option which will be in the rare cases, the kid is a sociopath and manipulate his way into being his mom favorite but that is so so rare.

It can be so very hard to make ourselves do what we need to do sometimes! It was especially touching to see how his feelings came out in his body language ~ his limp arms when you hugged him at the beginning, his suffering when picking things up off the floor, his facial expressions... such a wonderful example of learning to practice fortitude and self-control and experiencing their rewards! It was beautiful to witness the way you came alongside to guide him throughout, and that he was allowed to have his feelings without being reprimanded. The only thing a bit missing for me (and it could have occurred often and earlier) was expression of empathy. Are you familiar with the acronym ACT? It stands for Acknowledge the feeling, Communicate the limit (which you did so well!) and Target the alternatives (providing choice, which children need as much as grown-ups). Acknowledgment of his feelings at the beginning would've softened the start of the video. Sprinkling it throughout the chore completing process would have amplified connection and feelings of support and understanding. Overall, such a great example of positive parenting!! Your concrete examples will surely encourage and help so many ~ thank you!!!

You are so welcome! There is also CAT, when speed is of the essence, such as in a dangerous situation ~ simply switch the order of A and C. You can see that I utilized one of them at the beginning of my first comment :)

Thank you. This helps. I don't always know how to handle my daughter's tantrums and I always feel ashamed to ask, so it's nice to be able to see someone actually doing the response for me to see. Idk if it's cause I have Asperger's or if it's a normal thing, but I don't just _know_ how to parent/mother sometimes and it's frustrating. Probably also doesn't help that I didn't have a good mom or stepmom growing up, both were abusive, one physically the other mentally. 🙄 I've tried spanking, but I really don't like spanking them. I've recently settled for explaining before and after spankings so that I'm not just confusing them with unexplained punishment, but if I can avoid spankings I would much prefer that.

You’re a wonderful mother! I specialize in gentle parenting, which emphasizes the importance of allowing space for a child's emotions. Sometimes it seems like you might be suppressing those emotions, and that can be unsettling for the kids. Loving parenting is definitely about providing a nurturing framework, but it’s also crucial to validate their feelings. Additionally, avoiding time-outs is important, as they can make children feel abandoned during tough moments. A child's nervous system thrives with a calm and loving parent, as this helps them co-regulate their emotions. We should recognize the difference between gentle parenting and a more rigid approach. Keep up the great work; your love is evident!
