O my goodness. Shrill, high voices, yell Uh Oh Uh Oh! Loud hand clapping. Poor little kid!
@mygirldarby2 жыл бұрын
They have to do the clapping to test whether it's working and how the child reacts. They probably slightly turned down the volume after he showed distress about the clapping. All that crosstalk with the mom and dad wasn't really helpful though. I believe the "uh oh" was the audiologist, looking to see if he turned his head toward her.

The doctor who specialized in helping this little soul hear should have had a talk with the parents about introducing this brand new sense to him in a calm and quiet environment. There were too many people, everyone making noise, the mother consistently trying to pull his attention away from what he was trying to let her know: IT WAS TOO LOUD. Why is someone CLAPPING? He makes signals to his mother that he's in distress but she holds his arms down and ignores his cues. And when he pulls the cord out and seems relieved for a second, they plug it right back in like Uh oh! Oopsie! Like he's an idiot that doesn't realize why everything is too much for him. This was the only video I've seen of anyone being introduced to hearing in what seems like an unprofessional and very busy setting. Of course we don't always know all the details, but really it was hard to watch that little boy in obvious pain. Anyone who has felt that sharp inner ear pain can empathize with him.

Too much noise. It's like a birth of his hearing, it needs to be an environment of quiet calm IMO. I understand the excitement for the WHOLE family, who all seemed to be there, but this was HIS first time of hearing and it's clearly overwhelming and a shock to his sense.
@frankm.28506 жыл бұрын
While this is neat to see, the adults are kind of assholes. A high school friend of mine was deaf and finally got hearing aids that worked around the age of five. From what she told me, being five and hearing adults around her talking at normal volume for the first time was overwhelming, so I'm guessing the sensory overload was even worse for this little guy with the doofuses surrounding him.

I’m on the autistic spectrum and noises bother me. So I can absolutely understand where’s he’s coming from. That room where it’s all happening in needs to not be crowded, quiet except for who’s asked to make a sound or speak. The therapist controlling it. Who, what and volume. Looking at the screen shot it looks like his attention is all over, he’s getting visual and auditory overload. How’s he supposed to know who’s making the sound is everyone is doing it. Almost everyone knows toddlers don’t want to be held down. He doesn’t want to be held on the chair, he wants to do whatever he wants, because he’s a toddler & it’s normal. They were so loud too, totally unfair to him & I usually love watching videos like this. Not fair to him

I’m not saying they’re hurting him holding him down, but children his age don’t want to be held, don’t want to be sat, they want to run & investigate.

I don’t want to hate on anyone, but if a kid is born deaf and they hear for the first time, they’re not going to understand you. I’ve seen videos of parents who tell their kids to say something 3 seconds after hearing for the first time. They are like newborns in that way, they can’t speak or understand you until they learn over time. To them, you are speaking gibberish. How can they talk if they’ve never heard someone talk before? And how will they know what you’re saying to them? They don’t know words like “look” or “mom”. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk

He even pulled his ear and tries to turn the first music down ... and shouting and clapping is cruel. The clapping is almost abusive . This could have been a very sweet video if they had been hyper aware (or even slightly aware in this case!) of how sensitive he would be. It would be akin to having meningitis and having someone clap or shine lights at you.

vicetrooperx30 This isn’t cruel or being mistreated. I used to think the same thing. However, I have viewed a few practitioners that should have been hooked up for equal time. Babies on up in age, sometimes will cry hard, but within a very brief time they’ll look up and start smiling and laughing. There isn’t a dry eye, from happiness anywhere. Parents so relieved their child no longer has to live in silence. When you watch as many of these videos as myself, you’ll see. 😉💕It was really good though to see your heart filled with concern for this 😍little Man of Tomorrow. He is so adorable😉

That was so cute a little loud at first but his face when he heard his mom say “I love you” Was cute. Why a lot of y’all gota hate
@GracefullyAutistic3 жыл бұрын
Because that face wasn't cute, he was clearly in pain. If you pay attention you'll see that he was looking in the direction of the clapping, and was clearly too overwhelmed from the sensory overload to even notice his mom saying 'I love you'. Also, the mom forcefully keeping his arms down and constantly saying 'look at Mommy! Look at Mommy!!', while being completely oblivious to her child's needs because at that moment all she cares about is having that youtube-worthy 'moment' was really upsetting to me. As someone who's autistic, I can tell you that autistic people (especially children going through ABA therapy) deal with these kinds of people all the time, and it sucks big time. So yeah, that's why we have a lot of 'hate'.

She was holding his hands down because he was trying to pull out the wires to the implant. He managed to unplug one of them. They can't test it to see if the implant works if he pulls out the cord! She wasn't saying "look at mommy" to make a good video either. She was trying to get his attention so he would look up and they could see whether the implant was working by his reactions and facial expressions. If he wouldn't look up and respond to the sound, they wouldn't be able to figure out if it was working correctly and if the volume was set too low or too loud. His family obviously loves and adores him and they weren't doing anything to hurt him. If his mom didn't care about him (which is an awful accusation), she wouldn't have taken him to get help. Cochlear implants are not required and they are expensive. She was clearly doing all she could for her son to have a good life. The child was agitated because he didn't know what was going on, and he was too young for him to understand. You see at the end of this video that the boy was enjoying being able to hear after he adjusted to the implant. You have a very negative and judgmental way of interpreting people's actions. There was absolutely nothing in this video that indicated the mom was selfish and only cared for herself. Nothing! You're most likely displacing your issues with your own mother onto the mom in the video. Therapy would be helpful for you.
