Want to learn the Toe to Heel Tack on your kitefoil? Then you need to watch this video as I've spotted a small but vital technique that will up your success rate massively - hell, it might be just what you need to get around your first tack without getting wet!
This is my favorite tack, that feels amazing when you get your body and kite in the correct position and are abe to carve around effortlessly. When it does work it ends abruptly! I;ve been there, it took me a while to get start but I've spent a lot of time perfecting this tack and working to really understand what makes it tick - so I help you do the same.
I can't believe it's taken me so long to spot this but after reviewing a lot of footage of loads of riders, one thing shone through - watch the video to find out this hidden gem...
The kite is also vital, I'll touch on that briefing but I've already discussed the kite movement for tacking in detail before. Check out the following blog post for an extensive background overview of all 4 tacks, some key concepts and the order that I think you should learn then in:
www.progression.me/blog/learn...
More tacking videos like this are coming soon but for those of you not quite ready to start tacking, check out our other kitefoiling instructional videos:

Great instructions, especially with the flipping of the wrist to redirect the kite. Another point is that you need to sheet out fully, which is something that I don't really do.

You hit the nail so squarely on the head! Thanks. i've been doing these for a couple of years and never did the wrist flip thing. i'd seen videos of others doing it with the wrist flip and i half heartedly gave it a try. i decided there was nothing in it and maybe it was just a style thing as i could already do them without it... ... However i watched your vid and thought that i'd give it another try. At first i saw no great benefit but today i tried again and all that can be said is thankyou!!! This trick well actually the 360 version which was already my favourite now feels so much more fluid. i spent the whole afternoon playing with it and had a blast. Many thanks!!
@progressionsports
@progressionsports 2 жыл бұрын
Excellent - and yes do need to full commit to the wrist twist and follow through with your shoulder and lean into your lines. Doing it half heartedly will not do the trick! But great that you have seen your toe to heels move up a notch - when you get the flow they really are the best!

The bar twist from the T2H is also relevant to the H2T. It's not so dramatic but definitely a part of it. But I have good H2T tip so will get that filmed and out in the next couple of weeks. And can you do a 360? The is often the gateway to the H2T, most people we teach on camps find the 360 is easier to learn first and once they have that, adjusting to get the H2T is a relatively small next step .
@lomsi1
@lomsi1 3 жыл бұрын
@@progressionsports Short answer No. Longer answer occasionally make clean 360's when trying to do H2T and fully powered and have enough power to ride out without a down loop. Missed you in La Ventana this winter...

Great video. Did you try this wrist twist for strapless board T2H tacks? Is it likely to improve my strapless tacks as well?
@progressionsports
@progressionsports 8 ай бұрын
Yes, kind of, but on a surfboard you have to be way more aggressive to make T2H tacks work because you don't get the glide you have on a foil, as soon as you lose power from the kite (when it comes up high) you'll slow down really quickly.

Hi Rob, I love the video! which size of mast are you riding here? 85 or105? If actually 85, did you have the chance to try the 105 for comparison? I'm riding 85 and I'm thinking alot about an upgrade but not sure if it makes sense for freeride. Thanks.
@progressionsports
@progressionsports 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tim. I'm riding the 105, I had the 85 before but wanted to be able to push harder, cant over further in carves and tacks. It definitely took a few sessions to get used too but it definitely helps a lot if you are pushing hard through tricks, it allows you to make mistakes and correct them before you vent - obviously if you don't correct the falls are a lot harder! So yeah, long masts are great for freeride as well as racing.

Brilliant Rob, as always...👍👏👏👏👏 One question: do you sheet in just as you are twisting the body after the wrist flip 180° or wait until you are set in heel side position? Thanks
@progressionsports
@progressionsports 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you like the video. And sheeting in is important and happens later. You twist the wrist, get your body into the correct position and start carving. At this point sheeting in would take weight off your feet and you want weight on your toes and with the kite sheeted out it will continue to fly with you through the carve. You can get stability from the kite by pushing the bar into the lines and this will ensure you keep the lines nicely tensioned (you can be quite aggressive with this). You sheet in once the nose has gone through the eye of the wind, you are heading in that new direction and require lift to get your body upright and to give you steering control fo the kite. There are subtle difference depending on the strength of the wind, size of kite etc too. Watch the video at this point (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKrahqOaeMeAatE) and look at each of the riding clips, you should start to see when I sheet in (or maybe more clear is how long I stay sheeted out for).

Do a heel side 360 to blind that one has tricky bar technique trying to learn it now and I think loser foot straps would help feels weird

Question, please: when I ride toeside, and am holding the bar one-handed, I already usually have my wrist twisted , so that my palm is facing in and towards me, rather than out. For this maneuver, should I start with the palm out and then twist the wrist before turning?
@progressionsports
@progressionsports 3 жыл бұрын
OK, not sure about that, never seen anyone riding that way. So is the bar actually twisted or are you just using an underhand grip?
@kitesurferlee

Does the twist of the wrist and forceful lean onto the lines give support on body lift from kite to be able to keep pressure on front foot ? Just learning and seems common theme 😊
@progressionsports
@progressionsports 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly. It's all about allowing you to get weight into the turn but crucial ensuring weight stays forward. The wrist twist allows your body to get into the correct position and not have the lines in your way stopping you from getting your body weigh forward. Leaning into the lines also helps you to stay balanced on the foil and maintain line tension, even though you are full sheeted out (which is vital to ensure the kite stays flying over head).

Hi Rob, excellent content thanks. Regarding the twist of the wrist see the attached video, this guy also explains the twist extremely well - but in the context of a roll tack (foot change) nb: His description also of elbow close the chest which you are doing near the end of the move in the T2H version. Hope this helps everyone. Regards. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hofPY556rJuUmM0
