All thanks to your youtube videos My tip to all - When watching youtube videos, turn off the captions, set the playback speed to 1.75x or 2x, and take notes. This way, you can prepare for other sections and simultaneously work on your listening & note-taking skills. This really helped me because I got comfortable taking notes when somebody's talking REALLLYYY fast. So in the exam when I heard the lectures or conversations at a normal pace, understanding what the speaker was saying felt like a piece of cake - and note-taking was easy too! The reading and lecture is both about Marco Polo and his book "Travels of Marco Polo". The reading Editing states that Marco Polo's exploration as merchant in Far East is confusing and questionable. The lecturer, however, disagrees with the statement. First of all, the writing states that his relationship with Kublai khan is inaccurate. As he was the governor of the city he was not cited I any of the governmental records. The lecturer, however, states that polo was ambassador to the region and the position where he was to represent is unworthy of mentioning in the records then. 'He asserts that his position was not worthy of status to include in the Kublai khan's records. Next, the author says that Marco Polo lied about visiting to Northern China, It goes on to say that while polo did not mention Great Wall of China. If he was to cross any region of china he would have noticed the great wall stretching almost all of the surrounding region. The lecturer asserts the opposite. He says that Great Wall of China was built to safeguard them from invading Mongols. At this time the wall was under construction or in unready phase of conclusion. The wall itself was not worthy of scene. Lastly, the author states that all Marco polo did in his book was just the stories he heard in the trading ports of Persia and others. To support, the reading states the fact that there was no trading ports in China or magnolia. The lecturer asserts otherwise. Conversely, he states that Marco polo mentioned the dozen of churches in the Chinese mainland which was recently discovered in Chinese land and was verified by the team of archeologists. Therefore, he asserts that this supports his idea that Marco did travelled to china. To sum up, the reading argues that Marco polo has lied and confused with his book "Travels of Marco Polo". The lecturer on the other hands counter argues the claim made in the writing.

In the passage the author describes that there are slew advantages of deforestation in many aspects such as goods and services for the everyday uses which is materials for the home uses while the lecture vehemently argues the dissatisfaction against the author; by considering the facts that author doesnot consider the long term consequences of the deforestration. Additionally, Author is concering about the pouplation growth , food security for the all citizens; the only ways to tackle this devastating problems is deforestation which leads to ample of space for housing, resources for making the building, new area for the cultivatin as well as growing of both crops and livestock, and surplus amount of food is milstone for the regional not only economy but also the wellbeing. Whilst, lecture suggests that there are ample of alternatives technoloy such as hydroponics even no necessity of soil for the cultivation of the vegetables and crops which focus on preservation of the ecosystem rather then destrction as like deforestaion owing to forest ecosystem is inhabitats of tremandeous number of insects, birds ,animals etc. Furthermore,Lecturer point out that about the 28% of the global oxygen is drived from the rainforest , thus gaining the monetary advantages by peoples canot devasted the ecosysetem which isnot considered by the author. Based on lecturer, while forest is the intergral part of the economics of many developing countires like Brazil, Thiland , and created the jobs for many people, it is erronous that this assumtions in the light of nearlly all of the developping counties workers have the low wages; benefits are only for the samll group of organizers. clearly, the lecture criticized the author arguments by countering the all short term and limited peronal gain activities focusing on the at once long and sustainble activies with alteratives solution to preseve and withold the economy and growing demands of the foods for shoring population. i wrote this , can you please grade it out of 15?

This is what I wrote if someone wants to compare. (I will post my grade in the next weeks) Marco Polo’s book about his travels through the Far East has been criticized since its publication. The writer states three points, which are supposed to show that Marco Polo lied in his book and is opposed by the speaker who brings up examples to proof Marco Polo’s authenticity. First, the author says that Marco Polo was unlikely to be in a high government position as the Chinese would have never given such a position to a foreigner especially a European. He supports his argument by stating the fact, that Marco Polo’s name did not appear in any documents from this time. The speaker corrects the writer as this assumption is made on false information. He says that the importance of Polo’s role was overestimated due to a translational error and that he in fact was an ambassador, just like thousands of others. He basically was too unimportant to be named. According to the writer Marco would have documented the sight of the Chinese wall during his travels through north China. The speaker opposes this as Polo visited north China fifty years after the invasion by the Mongolian people and it is not clear in which state the wall was during this time. He claims that the wall could have been so damaged that Marco Polo barely even noticed it as something special. Further, the writer refers to a book by Frances Wood who thinks that Marco Polo gathered his information from libraries in modern-day Turkey and Iran as there were no Italian trading posts in Mongolia or China. The speaker, on the other hand, picks an example of Marco Polo’s book in which he describes churches in the east of China that have been found by archeologists. He goes on and says that the existence of these churches is not documented in any literature from the Middle East and therefore presents this a proof of Marco Polo’s travels.

Hi all please provide a score to my essay below. The article and the lecture both deal with Deforestation. Whilst the author of the article thinks that Deforestation has many benefits that help improve people's lives for three specific reasons, the lecturer opposes the author's claim. In his opinion, deforestation will prove to be dangerous to the world in long term. First, the Writer claims that deforestation has provided large areas of farmland. Large fields can be used to grow corps and livestock. Furthermore, it is stated in the article that it's crucial to produce more food as the world population continues to increase. In contrast, the lecturer argues that we should look into the alternatives of farming techniques like hydroponics which do not require soil. Additionally, he maintains that we need to use technology to preserve the rainforest ecosystem. Second, the author mentions that the global population is raising and there is an increase in the demand of living space which requires development of residential areas. On top of that, he adds that new urban areas benefits the regional economy. However, the lecturer calls this argument into question by saying that economic prosperity is just to make money. Further, he remarks that the animals, insects and other species would be deprived of its living space would slowly result in extinction from the ecosystem. Finally, the writer asserts that in countries like Brazil, Thailand and Indonesia a large percentage of people rely on deforestation as a source of income. Thousands of jobs have been created in order to meet the world's demand of paper, furniture and lumber. In addition to that, in the article it is mentioned that the workers in this industry would be economically affected incase the industry is shutdown.

can someone please review this The reading and the lecture are about the consequences of deforestation. The author believes deforestation is beneficial for overall human development by providing land, food and residential areas. The lecturer disagrees with the readers claims and critiques each of the authors arguments. According to the author, there are many benefits to deforestation. The article asserts that the clearing of lands leads to an increase in the area to grow crops and livestock’s which is crucial in order to support this ever growing population. This argument Is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that we shouldn’t rely on deforestation for growing of crops, instead we should focus on the technological advancements like hydroponics in which one doesn’t need soil and land to grow crops. This would also help us to save our rainforests, as they are responsible for 28% of oxygen that we breathe today. Secondly, the author suggests that deforestation helps to accommodate more space for residential areas and helps boost the economy of people thereby providing them resources to live, work and thrive. The article notes that this helps people and investors to make more money. The lecturer, however, asserts that our focus shouldn’t be the on the short-term goal, instead we should focus on the long-term impacts of this. He continues by stating that animals and plants are severely affected by deforestation where many animals get displaced of the homes and many plants species get endangered. Finally, the author puts forth the idea that in countries like Brazil many people primarily rely on deforestation for their living. The author contends that these people would severely get affected if we stop deforestation. In contrast, the lecturer’s stance is that deforestation is a treacherous work and many people put their lives in danger in the process. He says that while these people rely on deforestation for survival, they still get a very small chunk of the actual share which goes to the main businessman and investors. In conclusion, both the author and the speaker are fervent in their beliefs of deforestation and disagree with each other on every point.
@The_beastoneАй бұрын
1. Grammar and Sentence Structure Grammar mistakes: "The lecturer disagrees with the readers claims" → should be "the reader's claims" (possessive form). "The clearing of lands leads to an increase in the area to grow crops and livestock’s which is crucial in order to support this ever growing population" → two issues here: "livestock's" should be "livestock" (no possessive needed), and "ever growing" should be "ever-growing" (a compound adjective). "This argument Is challenged by the lecturer" → "Is" should be lowercase ("is"). "We shouldn’t rely on deforestation for growing of crops" → This could be more concise: "rely on deforestation to grow crops" is smoother. "Many animals get displaced of the homes" → should be "displaced from their homes." "Plants species get endangered" → should be "plant species become endangered." "While these people rely on deforestation for survival, they still get a very small chunk of the actual share which goes to the main businessman and investors." → The phrase "the actual share which goes to the main businessman" can be improved: "a small portion of the profits, while the majority goes to businessmen and investors." Run-on sentences: In a few places, sentences are long and could be split for clarity, such as: "The author contends that these people would severely get affected if we stop deforestation. In contrast, the lecturer’s stance is that deforestation is a treacherous work and many people put their lives in danger in the process." Consider breaking this up to make it clearer: "The author contends that these people would be severely affected if deforestation were to stop. However, the lecturer argues that deforestation is dangerous work, and many people put their lives in danger during the process." 2. Vocabulary and Word Choice Word repetition: Try to vary word choice to avoid repetitive phrases like "the author," "the lecturer," and "deforestation." Use synonyms such as "the speaker" or "the passage" to mix things up. Example: "The lecturer disagrees with the reader's claims" could be "The speaker refutes the passage's claims." Advanced word choices: "Livelihood" instead of "living" would enhance vocabulary. "Short-term economic gain" instead of "short-term goal" would make the economic aspect clearer. 3. Organization and Coherence Your response follows the prompt well and provides clear points contrasting the reading with the lecture. Transitions: Use more varied transitions to enhance the flow. For example: Instead of "Secondly," try "Furthermore" or "In addition." Instead of "Finally," you could use "Lastly" or "The final argument." 4. Content and Development You correctly identify and explain the major points of disagreement between the reading and the lecture. However, more specific details from the lecture could strengthen your argument, especially for the second and third points. The conclusion is a bit short and could benefit from a more developed summary of the key points made by both the author and the lecturer. 5. TOEFL Grading System The TOEFL Integrated Writing Task is scored on a scale of 0 to 5, based on the following criteria: Accuracy and completeness: Your essay addresses all three main points, but it could include more specific examples and details from the lecture. Organization: The essay is logically organized but could benefit from clearer transitions and slightly more emphasis on synthesizing the information. Language use: Generally strong, though some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing reduce clarity. Vocabulary and grammar: Mostly accurate, but a few minor errors (word choice, possessive, etc.) affect fluency. Estimated TOEFL Score: I'd estimate this essay to score around 3.5-4 out of 5. To reach a higher score: Work on eliminating small grammatical errors. Use a wider variety of transition phrases. Provide more specific details and examples from the lecture to better support your comparisons. Keep practicing, and focus on tightening your language and adding more specific evidence!

i write this in 10 minutes, how much points would I get? As author mentions that deforestation is needed to build new residential areas as well as industrial circles. It is asserted that as human population grows and new technological tools develop, deforestation has been also grown proportionally along with the these two factors aforementioned. On the other hand, lecturer denies the author's ideas and more specifically considers long term effects of serially cutting rainforests. Firstly, author implies that governments need to create farmlands which also paves the way to boost crop producing and livestock. Then, author emphasizes magnate population growth in the global scale, causing the demand for more food alarmingly. As for lecturer, these method which is cutting the forest and making deforested fields is too old-fashioned and therefore we have to look for more contemporary and environmental friendly tools such as hydroponic agriculture technic. Secondly, author states that new residential areas are needed to be built as the global population growth which results in politically and ethically righteous deforestation in some countries. Likewise, building new residents, buildings, urban areas helps for economical growth, the author gives more specific examples such as Brazil, Thailand and Indonesia. In these three countries, forestry industry plays a huge role in their economies, including employing workers by supplying them job opportunities, based on paper, furniture and lumber sectors. Nevertheless, lecturer opposes the reasons given and states two more probable results of exterminating rainforests systematically. To begin with, killing animals and insects are part of deforestation process and as a matter of fact, rainforests cover 20% of the world's oxygen need. Moreover, those three countries mentioned in the reading were developing countries therefore it is not expected to be paid enough and just as a worker rather than spoiling their labor, as business owners make profit from them.

In the first example, I noticed that your essay did not give specific details that the lecturer speaks of, like there are no numeric values or names that the lecturer mentions. Having about 500 words in your essay affects your score, or is the word count not that significant?

Hi there and good question. If you heard these specific details, you can definitely include them in your essay, but it isn't necessary to score well, as long as you include the important arguments from the listening along with the main idea. can someone help me evaluate the following - I did get last 50 sec to proofread, tried to reduce the mistake in that time The lecturer talks about the travel log of Marco Polo asserting its credibility and true share in history. The author of the passage, however, doubts the credibility of Marco Polo's travel account. The passage thinks that traveller lied in this claims at various stages. The Lecturer presents various reasons for his support for the log. First of all, the lecturer asserts that the english translation of the travel account misinterpreted the appointment of Marco as Governor instead of an Ambassador. He goes on to say that this is not a very high positioned job to be mentioned in the chinese history text or Government record. This concept is refuted by the passage's idea that Marco Polo was not in close relations with Kublai khan. Clearly, the lecturer and the author maintain difference in thier views. Secondly, the lecturer agrues that there was a considerable amount of time between the actual travel and documentation fo the travel, providing reasoning for not mentioning The Great Wall of China. He also suggests that The Great Wall was disregarded during the China visit of Marco, as the war ended. Again this contradicts the idea or the passage that the Wall was enormous enough to notice and mention in a travel account. Lastly, lecturer introduced the mention of dozens of churches in the Polo's account which were later excavated and which are clearly not mentioned in many of the well accepted travel accounts. He also goes on to say that the critics of Polo's account could not provide compelling reasons for such findings. On the other land the author states examples to emphasise on the fact that the account was mere examples used from the logs of other asian travellers he would have met during the expedition. All in all, the lecturer and the author appears to be in clear disagreement about the authentication and credibility of the travel account of Marco Polo giving their own justification for their beliefs.

generally, you want to put the READING before the lecture, because the point of the question is if the lecture agrees or disagrees with the reading. there are a few spelling mistakes, but not that many, which is good. your essay structure is fine, but you want to try to follow the intro+body+conclusion template as closely as possible for this test. you've used a good amount of advanced vocabulary. this is very nice. not that many grammatical mistakes either. really, the only major flaw is the organization. you want the reading before the lecture.

Sir can you check upon this. Also fellow friends in comment section also rate it. Thanks alot The author and lecturer both deal with the book by the name of travels of Marco Polo. Whilst the author thinks that Marco Polo lied about events he mentioned in his book, he supports this claim by three specific reasons, the lecturer opposes the author’s claim. In his opinion, he did travel to China and the author’s claims do not hold water. First, the author claims that Marco polo was a close friend of Kabuli Khan, the grandchild of Genghis Khan. Furthermore, he it is stated that he was the governor of City for 20 years. Author adds that his name was not mentioned in all of government records. In contrast, the lecturer argues that his post was miss translated in English books. Polo was only just an ambassador for Kabuli Khan’s government, and it was not a critical position because there were thousands of other people working in the same post. Secondly, the author mentions that, Polo did not mention about the great wall of china, which is an interesting creation of humans that attracts anyone. Hence the author claims that he lied about his journey to china. On the other hand, the lecturer maintains that Polo travelled after the Mongolians conquered China, and the wall remained without any guards and of no interest, so that is why it did not attract the attention of Polo. Finally, the writer asserts from the book of Frances Woods, that Polo actually learned stories and read novels about china and its history. Moreover, he adds that there were no Italian posts during Mongolian empire in China. As opposed to author, the lecturer holds that, Frances Woods own book is disapproved for so many false claims. There is no evidence of Polo’s visits to libraries in Turkey. She highlights there are verified details about his visit to China, for instance he mentions about churches in eastern china, which later were found by archeologist in 2012. Not to forget, no other book has ever mentioned about the churches Polo stated in his book.

Thanks for your videos! I have a question: in the integrated writing does the lecturer always refute the author's arguments? Or could it be that he supports them?
@TSTPrep Жыл бұрын
The lecture ALWAYS opposes the reading passage. This has been officially confirmed to me by a rep from ETS, "Our current messaging about the Integrated Writing task is that the lecture always opposes the reading passage in some way; there is no other relationship." Hope that clears up any confusion some might have had about it.

hi im taking the toefl test next week and im very confused whether i should use the simple or the advanced template.
@TSTPrep7 ай бұрын
You can earn a high score with either template. The advanced template is designed for students who continue to struggle to get higher than a 25 and part of the problem might be that their language is too simple, so the advanced template helps a little. In general, though, the most important part of your writing score is your own writing outside the template. Either way, good luck.

Dear Josh, I have a doubt. I am not sure if a title is required to be mentioned for the integrated writing task. Can you suggest on this?
@TSTPrep Жыл бұрын
You have to introduce the general topic, not the title. For example, if the reading is about social media, in your response you must begin by stating "Many people have different opinions on social media."

Hello! I have a question about the integrated question task template. Do you think I can have a good rate if I use a template where the two first body paragraphs are only about the points made in the lecture and the third resumes the reading?
@TSTPrep Жыл бұрын
Thank you for this question. In this essay, each body paragraph must contain a main point from the reading and a counterpoint from the listening. If you only talk about one or the other, you will lose points.

Hi there Jacob and thank you for your question. This is just an example, so I think it is best for you to write your own essay and learn what score you would get. There is actually a website where you can upload your essay for free and it gives you feedback using the same software ETS uses on the TOEFL. The website is EdAgree and I will also put a link to an article that guides you to uploading your response and checking your feedback. Let me know how it goes! I have my test in 2 days and i was wondering if i can phrase my essay in a way wherein one paragraphy expresses the views by the author and the other paragraph expresses the contradiction from the lecture ? Or do we have to blend in both the views and siumtaneously express it in the same paragraphs?
@TSTPrep Жыл бұрын
What you are describing is known as block format. It will always score lower than blending the reading and listening to each paragraph. This is why it is considered integrated writing because you have to mix the ideas together, not write about them separately.

Can someone tell, do we need to write "we will not" instead of "we won't"? Like do we need to write full forms of I am, you are, etc. Or is it important only in case of word counting 🤔

Hi there and good question. There is nowhere written in the rules that contractions are not allowed, but in academia, students are usually taught not to write them, so do the same for the test.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with the sentence of "when he was visiting China,the Great Wall was in a bad situation. "?
@TSTPrep2 жыл бұрын
Hi there and thank you for your question. I believe you are talking about this part - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip-zo3aHqJKBgtE - and what you wrote is slightly better than what the student wrote, which is "...the Great Wall was at a bad situagtion because..." the student in the example has spelling mistakes and the wrong preposition, 'at' instead of 'in'. I highlighted the verb "was" but there is nothing wrong with this verb usage here. I highlighted it because I just wanted to show all of the verb tenses in this example. I hope that answers your question.

Question, if the directions state that I should write 150-225 words; is it okay for me to write more that that or do I have to always stay between those numbers?
@TSTPrep2 жыл бұрын
There is no maximum length for your response. According to ETS, your integrated essay needs to be somewhere between 150-225 words. However, we find that students who write between 250 - 300 words score higher. For the independent writing assignment, ETS states that you must write a minimum of 300 words. In our experience, students score higher when they write over 350 words. Hope this helps!
