Hello guys!
This time I compiled easier questions from TOEFL Paper Based and Computer Based Guide from Longman's Editorial.
Give it a try! If you feel your grammar skills are still in the intermediate level, you should try to achieve at least 30 correct answers. If you don't achieve at least 30, you have to reinforce your basic skills. There are many English grammar sites on the internet. My favorite is EnglishPage.com
INSTRUCTIONS: On your sheet of paper, write numbers 1 to 40 in columns.
Fill The Blank (15 questions) Questions 1 -15 are Incomplete sentences. Beneath each sentence you will see four words or phrases, marked (A), (B), (C), and (D). Choose the one option that best completes the sentence.
ERROR RECOGNITION In questions 1 to 16 each sentence has four underlined words or phrases. The four underlined parts of the sentence are marked (A), (B), (C), and (D). Identify the one option that MUST BE CHANGED in order for the sentence to be correct.

I got 39/40. I do have a slight contention with the answer to no.10, it should be C. There is something wrong with D because "an electrical charge passes through air" is a (S + V) clause in itself making the sentence (S + V + as + S + V) which to my knowledge is only appropriate to describe different actions occurring simultaneously (such as "I watched as they waited"), whereas "the passing of an electrical charge" is a gerund phrase that acts as a noun and an object making the clause S + V + as + noun

No. A clause needs a verb. Using C you would have one S and one V, one connector and only a N without V, that is not a clause, it is a phrase, and therefore it is wrong.

You inverse subject and verb when the sentence begins with a negative or an "almost negative" statement. Next tutorial in this channel will cover that subject.

Can anyone explain why number 20 is 'nuclei', I know it is supposed to be 'nucleus' but why is it?
@rudinieffendi1139
@rudinieffendi1139 3 жыл бұрын
Relative clause "of which, in which, to which, on which, from which, etc" commonly followed by complete sentence (at least Subject + Verb). In number 20, is passive form, so its already correct using past participle (built), "is built" is passive form.🙏
@rodrigorohenkohlsilva718

Nuclei is plural, singular is nucleus. So, to agree with "IS" should be nucleus, not nuclei.

1. No 7. I dont think the answer is B because "strict" is an adjective. There should be "been" after "had" in B 2. No 19. Flooding should be replaced by "flood", which functions as a noun. I think the answer for this number is A.
@BeautyOnTest
@BeautyOnTest 4 жыл бұрын
1. Number 7 is C. Please check the answers at the end of the video. 2. EXPENSIVELY is the incorrect choice since you need an adjective not an adverb. Deadly is an adjective. Parallel structure indicates you need two adjectives.

@@BeautyOnTest 1. Ooops sorry I thought it was B. I guess i saw the wrong number 😂 Then, my answer was correct, C. 2. Thx for the explanation. But, I just dont get it what flooding in this sentence means. If there's an adjective that comes before, noun will exactly come next. If "flooding" is an adjective clause (it functions as a verb of a clause), what comes after it will not be an adverb of time (during the summer). Quite confusing. Could A be incorrect too?

Hi all, please help on 13 / why is not A "is produced" I understand that rubber can't produce itself
@DanielBerejnoi
@DanielBerejnoi 2 жыл бұрын
That's correct! But in this case the main verb of the sentence is "IS difficult ...." so that means that after the subject you need something that does not act as the main verb of the sentence. The grammar rule being used in this sentence is "participle clauses" (you can look them up in google) but in simple terms: This is what the full sentence should look like (Restrictive relative clause) Rubber THAT IS PRODUCED from vulcanized silicones with a high molecular weight is difficult to distinguish from natural rubber. When you apply the rule of the participle clause, you eliminate the relative pronoun (that) and the auxiliary (is) and you turn the verb into past participle or present participle (produced) so the sentence ends up like this: (reduced relative clause or participle clause) Rubber PRODUCED from vulcanized silicones with a high molecular weight is difficult to distinguish from natural rubber. Hope it helped 🙌

1. No 30. Nuclei is a plural form of nucleus. The subject of the sentence is singular. Therefore, the answer should be nucleus. 2. No 31. The verb should be "recorded" since it's a passive sentence. 3. No 39. "Smaller" should be replaced by "small.
