Without a doubt, the Tolzer boys are the most disciplined and talented of all boys choirs. Have been to many of their concerts and have never been disappointed. In Los Angeles, in Decembero of 2011, they gave an outstanding performance of Bach's Weihnachts Oratorium, what a pleasure it was to see them perform.

What a pleasure to watch Professor Gerhard Schmidt-Gaden who is one of the most accomplished voice/choir teachers in the history of music. These boys are excelling in a very demanding musical performance. Also notice, the pianist is setting the tempo and pace markings perfectly for the young performers. Thank you for this excellent update of the Tölzer Knabenchor. It's very interesting to compare this group with the one in Graz in 2000 and with the Harnoncourt DVD of JSB's Johannes Passion. Such a concentration of talent year after year! And nowadays discipline being so difficult to impose but as essential to a choir as in the days of glorious JSB and wonderful WAM. Again Tausend Danke

Did you watch the whole video ? After the performances of all soloists the applause was "allowed"... That concert was on Sunday evening and ended at 10 pm. The next morning all the poor kids had to get up early cause they had to go to school...:) Therefore all the applauses had to be "reduced".

Libera sing their concerts live, there have been lip-synced TV performances but I think it comes down to the limits of some TV studios rather than the boys' skill. After all, they also perform live frequently. Their soloists look often nervous too (very normal obviously), and seems like the ability to control one's voice when nervous then comes down to skill and experience. What I find remarkable about this video is the very solid sound that these boys produce despite of clearly being nervous.

Now these are real kids. They are nervous and uncertain on stage but with voice quality of top chouristers. I never understood how the Libera boys do it. They always looked so calm and confident on stage.

That may be. But it seeme to me that he looks pretty proud when Prof. Schmidt-Gaden shakes his had immediately after his performance. I wonder if singing Pamina isn't one of the most honored roles in the chor? I really enjoy the boys' unrehearsed and uninhibited expressions. I especially like the grin on the boy on the right in the first set of boys Was he a Pamina also?

Since I don't see this actually answered, the boy's name is Jörg Lehne. I hope you are still here after 7 years. He seemed to be friends with Andreas Mörwald, the short haired blond boy you see in this video. When the boys take their bows, Andreas runs up to Jörg and says quite a few things to him. Both were quite a bit older than they looked. I think Andreas was already 15 years old. Perhaps Andreas was telling him that this was his last concert, because there was a video of the parents day a little later than this video where Andreas comes down from the risers and accepts his certificate indicating that he was retiring. I first saw the two of them standing next to each other in a video of them singing the Bach motets around four years earlier, and the same chatting from Andreas occurs there too.

Ich schicke Ihnen noch ein Video, das Herrn Haudum "in Lebensgröße" zeigt. Zu Ihrer Kritik: Beim Filmen hatte ich das Piano direkt vor mir links neben dem Chor. Ich denke, dass die "unsensible" Lautstärke darauf zurückzuführen ist.

They were pretty good. If I was a parent I would have been banging my palms together, too. They deserved better sound recording and more than one camera, but I still felt they didn't quite get the brilliant explosions of sound in Pamina's song that this choirmaster tried to get them towards, and which he has achieved with other groups in previous years.
