Fun thing, the clapping Finn does is something that was established in show. In the episode James Baxter the Horse when they did their own "thing" with the Jake trumpet at the funeral and made the skeleton's apparition appear, Jake clapped in that same rhythm after it punched them into the ground saying to listen for it in case they were separated

The thing that my brother told me when watching this episode, something that i DIDN'T even think about, is how at the end of the day, Finn and his dad (Martin) are so much more similar than you realize. Cuz, at the end of the day, HE ended up meandering throughout life, constantly going on adventures to distract himself from the passing of Jake. Sure, he has PEOPLE in his life, that much is true, but like Martin, this is his OWN way of running from his problems. The difference is, that Finn isn't an asshole to others. He's only half like Martin: both will just drift away, running to no particular destination. I find it REALLY sad that the first thing he ever thinks about when he dies is that he can FINALLY be with Jake again. Its really dark man.

And its realistic tbh Since S2 they've known about the dead worlds, Jake's also been fine with dying for a while like with his croak dream If we knew for a fact there was an after life, we would wait to be reunited with family too

The thing about the 50th deadworld is that in order to go there you have to have no desire in your heart, including the desire to go to the 50th dead world. So it makes sense why Finn, who is possibly the literal reincarnation of good (Finn was a catalyst comet and every catalyst comet brings a change to the world, and Finn's comet was bring good to the world), didn't end up going there but Jake, who had criminal past, did. Jake is usually a very chill guy and go-with-flow. He doesn't really have a lot of drive to do things unless someone he cares about is in danger, so it makes sense that he would be zen. Finn on the other hand is constantly WANTING to do good, and after Jake died, he WANTED to see him again.

Having the original intro is brilliant - it serves perfectly to give us as the audience the same sense of false nostalgia as Finn - You-Tuber Squill made an interesting video that Finn’s hallucination was part of his brain wanting to deny the rougher parts of his life - as that’s to way the Ice King is more villainous than he ever was in the original show. I find it wonderfully fitting that the Lich, the first main enemy they dealt with should be their last. And the bond between Finn and Jake is so strong that Jake willing give up eternal salvation for Finn brings me to tears - also Mr. Fox finally gets his pillow, Tiffany finally finding a real home and family, now to the most important rest in peace Polly Lou Livingston, she will always be remembered for her sweet grandmotherly voice, Miguel Ferrer there always will be remembered for his icon roles in Twin Peaks, RoboCop, and that Spiderman 2099 was named after him, Michel Lyman for his amazing work on Adventure Time as Shera, and Maureen Mlynarczyk for her work on Steven Universe, The Simpsons Movie and Adventure Time.

Also, I find it fitting that Mr Fox chooses a pillow instead of a scythe which symbolizes death as a comforting sleep rather than a monster that takes a person violently. As mentioned, Mr Fox is more chill with his role and is a great embodiment of Death.

Another thing to point out as to WHY Jake is so high up in the Dead Worlds is due to the fact that he's ALWAYS been into this shit. Remember the banana man episode??? The one where Jake had his "croak dream" he talks about the 50th dead world. And in the episode where he fights the ghost thing in the first james baxter episode, alongside finn, he talks about the two of them doing the clapping thing you see finn do when he meets up with Mr Fox. Its supposed to be like a signal.

Start of the episode is top notch. It gives season 1 energy but also feels off. Seeing ice king like that again after watching simon in so many occasions is just sad. And subtle hints about Jack's death is really makes it awesome. 50 flavor ice cream is forsehadowing the 50 floor of death realm. Seeing bunch of old characters in the death realm and having Lich as the antagonist again feels nostalgic as hell.

I love so much about this special I couldn’t articulate it in a 100,000 word essay let alone a KZbin comment. One of my favorite things though is the guts they had to say straight up “yeah they’re dead”. Most shows don’t confront that (understandably) but to me it shows such a confidence in the world they’ve created and really pays off. Like even though this episode feels more final than the series finale it’s still so open. Like the main characters of the show are literally dead and yet there are still so many stories that can be told. Idk, I’ve been watching adventure time for pretty much my whole conscious life and man this episode hit

Exactly, i love adventure time bc it took risks, like with The Lich, finn's arm, the mushroom war, the complexity of the story growing and growing. Most of distant lands felt pretty safe, but Together Again felt like it went the extra mile and was an necessary end to the characters.

If I had to rank the specials, I'd rank them like this: 4- Wizard City: Unlike the other specials, this special really didn't have anything going for it. It wasn't bad or anything it was just meh. The other specials are just leagues ahead of this one. 3- BMO: Need I say more? Everyone loves BMO. He's a cute little robot whose enjoyable to watch every time he's on screen. He carried his special. But his cuteness wasn't enough to beat the masterpieces the other two specials were. 2- Together Again- Yeah, this is a great way to end the show. Finn and Jake dying, finding each other again, taking on their first main enemy one last time and finally getting reincarnated together. It was really wholesome how much Finn obsessed over finding Jake, really shows how much he cares about him and loved the fight between them to become the new Death which was both wholesome and funny. 1- Obsidian- I'm sorry, but even the feeling of completeness Together Again gave me wasn't enough to trump my love for Bubbline, so I'm pretty biased. This was a great epilogue to their relationship, showing how much both characters have grown since the start of the show. Them going back to the place of their break-up was the ultimate test of the their relationship to see if they've truly grown, and they got through it. And ending with showing how PB got the rock shirt Marceline gave her (which I assume is how they first fell in love), was perfect.
