The more i listen to sets from this era, the more i realize it was probably DJ Falcon who helped Daft Punk design their Alive 200X shows since he was an early adopter of Ableton and clearly this is using a lot of synchronized loops.

@@smugmode I'm not a DJ, but being able to use samples on a computer through apps like Ableton is easier for a 5 second loop than winding a record/ cd back and queueing it up again. Also reduces the amount of vinyl/cd's DJ's had to cart around with them.

@@smugmode You can play pretty much any number of tracks, clips, samples, or synths at once in Ableton, with more or less complete control over the track. Awesome to hear Call On Me being dropped at 53:30 - two years ahead of Erik Prydz and the record label that stole it from Bangalter & Falcon!
@10unnecessary012 жыл бұрын
Copied from a reddit comment: Sort of but it's way more complicated than even that and I don't even blame Prydz anymore despite what the Daft Punk fans will claim. Thomas Bangalter and DJ Falcon were the first to do the song but they only did it in a live setting because they both didn't want to attempt to clear the rights and didn't think the potential success would be worth the effort. The song got around due to its success in dance clubs and later on Ministry of Sound decided to take on the mix and sell it commercially. But they couldn't just lift the OG track because the prior duo had only done it live and they also recognized the difficulty in getting the rights. So what they did instead was get Prydz to remix it, combined with Winwood re-recording the vocals backwards (if you listen the song the sample is from you'll notice that the long and short verses are reversed). There's basically a 100% chance Prydz had heard the original Bangalter/Falcon mix, and if not Ministry of Sound would've pushed him to make it basically that anyway. So Prydz mixed it, Ministry of Sound released it, and it became one of the most successful electronic tracks in history. MoS then took it several steps further by even releasing something like dozen fitness DvDs based upon the music video just to cash in as much as possible. But the reason I, and honestly most people, should not blame Prydz is because MoS have a long history of being pieces of shit in the electronic scene; they knew they were copying a track, and Prydz spent his entire career afterwards distancing himself from the track. He's been open about how he didn't feel like Call on Me was "his sound" and (afaik) has avoided playing it whenever possible at every show he puts on. I have little doubt that MoS threw around their weight as much as possible just to get the track out because they knew they were sitting on a goldmine, morals and copyright be damned. It is also worth noting that while the sample is effectively the same as the original Bangalter/Falcon mix, the song itself has a good amount of changes. MoS should've still credited the original mix, but Prydz definitely mixed it himself and put his own spin on it. Basically, 95% of the blame should go to Ministry of Sound and 5% to Prydz.

Obligatory comments about “Call on Me” aside, it’s kinda funny how ahead Falcon was, sampling “In My Mind”

Why is nobody talking about 38:26 - 44:06. It's quite long, no doubt but the constantly changing composition is an absolute godsend.

I have no idea, its its own thing but funny enough found out about this set originally because of that section, a small future funk artist was telling me about how he wished it was longer/professional mix because its one of a series of great tunes which featured/used/inspired in part along with Chicago's - Street Player, which in its own right has become a famous sample even if its not as prolific outside a bit more underground stuff. I really like the build up before it goes hard at 39:21

Okay the bit before call on me which starts at, 51:40 seems to be a sample which got reworked into a song, or was sampled from this song „The Heartbreakers - Heartbreaker“ or „Menace & Adam Pres. The Heartbreakers - can‘t stop loving you“
