Well it's actually a form of martial art based around the Polynesian weapons like the Taiaha. The martial art is called Mau Rakau which bacially means "to bear a weapon". Not sure if you can learn at the culture center but I think you can learn the marical art if you find the right establishment or person that will teach it to you.
