Hi Angela. I have loved Toile for many decades. My love started when I was about 14 and my parents took me to France for our summer vacation. Visited a few chateaux and just thought how pretty the rooms with Toile were..... Oh well. Here we are 40 years later..... 🤯 🥰

Oh my goodness, this was amazing. It is wonderful to learn about the various fabrics, the weaves, the bleaching, washing and drying not to mention the designing of the various patterns. The toile is so amazing, the Indian weavers are so talented, and the rug weavers from all that side of the world, the Afghani's yet the toile of the British was amazing. with the correct colours and designs, it would be over the top especially the hunting scenes. Your design work is beautiful. Wishing you all the very best and trusting you will create stunning designs/patterns. Fabulous! Kind regards.

Hi Mariya. Thank you so much. We both love Toile with all its possibilities. Classic and more modern. 😍 There is a bit of a dark side to British colonial rule in India. Not only the embargo from France and other countries that banned Indian fabrics but to protect the English cotton mills, there was a terrible movement to destroy many looms and break the fingers of the weavers. We decided not to include that……. Hope you don’t have horrible temperatures. It’s way too cold for our dogs. Always such a pleasure to read your comments. Hugs

@@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 I believe they could be ruthless, for sure. As fine as life was for the few, there were far more that lived very harshly; that's a whole other side of history; afterall our countries are made up of those seeking better, many coming over young, on their own. Not so bad winter wise here, however my daughter in British Columbia (her first year there) is experiencing some pretty extra cold, snowy, windy weather.... January/February hunker down time. @@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 Me again and off the present topic, but in reference to earlier videos of yours : if you have an interest in 18th century architectural theory and chateau design and layout (like myself as a book collector) and can read some French, you might enjoy looking through some of the most influencial architecture treatises of the times, which feature many plates with floorplans and elevations, interior decoration such as panelling and mantelpiece design, etc : - Architecture moderne ou l'art de bien bâtir pour toutes sortes de personnes, attributed to Charles Etienne Briseux ( 1728), with a main focus on building techniques, terms of reference, dealing with contractors... - De la distribution des maisons de plaisance et de la décoration des édifices en général, by Jacques-Francois Blondel ( 1737), more decoration oriented with some plates on garden design - L'art de bâtir des maisons de campagne , by Charles-Etienne Briseux ( 1743 ). Definitely 'rococo' or 'rocaille' design Those books are classics and their original éditions can be read online, with all their plates, especially on Google Books (I can send you the links if necessary).

@@francoisleyrat8659 well thank you so much! That is amazing! I found all the manuscripts/books. I had no idea that was possible. We got two books for Christmas for ourselves. Small Manor Houses and Farmsteads in France by Harold Donaldson Eberlein from 1926 And The Smaller Houses and Gardens of Versailles 1680 to 1815 by Leigh French, Jr. and Eberlein. Also 1926. We sat in front of the fire and were reading and enjoying the photos. There is really a lack of books and materials about the smaller chateaux from 1600 to 1799. We saw some rooms while touring properties that we so interesting but cannot find resource materials to contemplate how to renovate it appropriately. It’s such an amazing field. Can’t thank you enough. Well, once we are settled, you can always come for a visit. My French is a work in progress. I had French for 7 years in school…… then came the 25 years of me no using it. That was very interesting about toile. I love toile fabric and use it when I can afford it in my quilting. But I didn't know all the minute detail about the history of it.

I saw this for the first time today as well. Even though I love Toile for 4 decades, and went to the museum, I still learned quite a bit today. Have fun quilting! I admire people who can quilt……. It’s not me but brava! 🥰

Stuart from one artist to another. Well done! Classic natural beauty. Detailed in simplicity and grace. Please let us know where we can see your designs. I am a fan of your art style. I would love to see more. If you had a desire for a side hustle of a yt drawing channel you could absolutely succeed at it. I watch them here and there and your skill and flare would draw an audience if you wanted it. Am I reaching to think we might see some of your designs on future furniture re-upholstery or fabrics in your home?

Thank you so much! I like the idea of a YT channel just for my drawing/art. I hadn't even thought of that, but honestly there are just not enough hours in the day for everything we have going on right now. I will continue to do more of capturing the progress of creating my art, as it mainly will be for our future chateau decor. 😀

Your comment is just plain wonderful. Thank you. So kind and supportive. I am searching for print shops that can do quality cotton and mixed fabric prints but also wallpaper in France and Germany for our future projects. Upholstery and curtains is on the list of projects we want to start when we are in France.

Stuart, you are a prize. Designing and making your own Toile de Jouy. I can see it used on crazy angled walls, like under staircases, or dormer windows. And I like to see it on everything from walls to the canape and bergere and certainly the bed upholstering. If a little is good why not a lot? And I'm very partial to the background colors that you don't see as much: teal, yellow, orange and certainly green. Been in Mexico too long I guess. Once saw a Peter Marino room with Toil de Jouy in black...very unusual and sophisticated. Not for everyone of course. Thanks so much for the visit to the Toile Museum...so informative. And, of course, to see the house artist at work.

Hi Ralph. My guess is that you don't have -21 degrees........ Well, we all deserve better than the temperatures we have here. Like you, I enjoy Toiles with strong backgrounds. Not sure I'd be brave enough to do a room with them, but hope I will. Looking for upholstery tools so we are ready. My parents have some furniture that we will need to pick up once we have a chateau on our way to sign the final contract and get the keys. What an exciting thought! My job was to paint portraits - reproductions of lovely ladies from the 17th and 18th centuries in oil. Stuart figured that we need some things for the walls right away. Enjoy a drink, I think it's a 3PM Martini day for us. Hugs and thank you so much 😚
