There is a simpler solution. Mix up some plaster and put it under the toilet where needed, around the ring and along the entire edge. Level out the toilet while tightening it down. Wipe away excess and you will have a rock-solid install.

Simple solution is a hanging toilet. looks nice, it's hygienic (Did I already said It really looks nice ? ;-) And most of all, no problem with the concrete floor.

Cool! Never thought to do that and always used shims. Your way is much cleaner! And glad to see your battle wound from that building tear down is healed up. Must feel good to be doing things like installing commodes. Means the finish line is getting close.

Glad to see you used the rubber ring. With in floor heat, you aren’t supposedly use the wax rings.

Wax melts around 130.. you would never get your floor that hot... those foam/rubber rings are absolute junk and break down quicker than wax ever will...

I have installed plenty of wax rings with radiant heat, never once had an issue. Those rubber ring suck.

When you caulk the toilet to the slab it will also firm up the overall fit. It is code: (408.2 2000 UPC) "Where a fixture comes into contact with the wall or floor, the joint between the fixture and the wall or floor shall be made watertight."
@craigs5212
@craigs5212 3 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree with this code -- If you seal the base of the toilet, and it leaks you will not notice until the (wood) floor is rotten. If you leave it open then if it leaks it will be noticed and reset before doing damage. Some codes are hold overs from days gone by.
@plumbbuild6517

@@craigs5212 that's true but some people caulk around and leave the back open for water to come out if the wax ring fails

Weird thing to say but you guys should try out one of the bidet toilet seats. Saves on TP big time and you’ll never feel cleaner. Like I said weird to say (and use at first 😂) but so worth it

Always fun to see a other standerd, in the Netherlands (EU Europa) it completely different. But some things are the same,…. (You fill in in the blanks) 😎

I bet you are revering to a hanging toilet which seems the standard over here (the Netherlands) in new builds.

My fear with concrete floors is the drains being set in the wrong place within the slab. Did you feel like your drains came out in the right places? Love seeing your home-you guys are awesome!

I think your first mistake was putting the flange on before you poured. I use lead stubs but even if you didn’t want to solder, you use a 4x3 closet bend. That way you have 4” pipe coming through. They can trowel it much easier when they can just but up to the pipe. You may have to chip off some slurry but that’s easier. Then just cut the pipe flush or a little lower and glue an inside flange on. Also, I know we don’t always see everything that’s done in a video but I didn’t see you secure the flange to the floor. You definitely need tapcons or some sort of concrete anchor. I know lots of people don’t do this but I think that’s bad practice. I prefer shims then just cut them and the caulk covers them. I never alter the toilet because if something happens and it leaks, they won’t cover any damages and may not even replace the toilet. It’s also much easier to put the tank on first where you have space then set the whole thing at once. In regards to the stop, I won’t get into the sharkbite debate but you should at least use an angle stop. It would look much better and have much less stress on the flex than bending around with a straight stop. Also is there a reason you put the stop on the right side. I hate to be too critical because I know these people aren’t plumbers. I didn’t notice anything that was technically against code but this is not how I and the vast majority of plumbers would do this. But hey if it works right

Are you putting in a bathroom tile floor, or is it to remain concrete? If being tiled, the toilet should be mounted on top of the tile for the best appearance.

You should have sealed the gap of the pan to the floor with silicone to stop water going under. Take that from a 90 year old plumber in Australia. Otherwise OK.

Why you not put the tank flush to the wall . Like we do in uk
@madhatter2012

Because the lid is larger than the tank and is turned down around the inside edge so it can fit over the top of the tank without sliding off.

This is the 2nd time ive seen US toilets installed, why is there such a large gap with the cistern from the wall? Surely this puts undue stress on the joint if anyone leans back. Almost all UK installs i've had/seen are connected to the wall

It’s not supposed to be. I always set mine at 12.5. That’s a 12” rough toilet plus .5” drywall. I’ve seen some plumbers do 13 just to give breathing room but this doesn’t make sense because you can get one in even if it’s 11” off the wall so why not aim for exact.

Odd to me! In my day, I have probably installed close to 400 toilets, 100 or more on concrete. Never once have I had to do any leveling or grinding. Would have to pretty shoddy concrete work. The Gasket takes care of any minor level issues.

Around here the plumbers do the rough in below the concrete, then when they install toilet they use two wax rings.

Not me I've have a double wax ring slip and I had to go back on a recall and pull the toilet, I've not use two wax rings since I carry spacers now, I have a box full of spacers 3 different sizes. And that's when I realized I'll never use Two wax rings again.
