They make those tank screws real cheap now, just brass plated steel so they rust out. People look at me weird when I stop by the side of the road when someone throws out an older toilet. I check for the old solid brass bolts and take them out if its got them. They last longer than the life of the toilet, and probably me too.

I like that Elger gasket as it has those side extensions that help support the tank in a way the others don't. geez, one project leads to another and another with this toilet! fix the leak at the bowl, opps the gasket is bad and the siliconed tank bolts, replace all those, then the toilet is walking because the previous guy didnt even tighten it down, shutoff valve gasket crumbles, replace that, tighten the toilet down and the wax leaks, replace that, tighten the supply tube and it makes a wierd noise, replace tht next! I'm 3 minutes from the end of the video and betting the float assy is bad and the toilet seat too!

Steve try using a washer and tank bolt through tank then metal washer and nut on bottom of tank. Tighten Then set tank on bowl and another metal washer and nut to pull tank to bowl. Like double bolting a toilet flange.

That’s top of the line? Looks like a regular toilet to me? Looks like the person who installed that was a handyman? I bought new toilets at my house 21 years ago. They were the .6 gallon flush. The trap was really small & if I flushed more than pee it struggled to flush. It often backed up. They lasted a month & bought from a plumbing supply shop brand new American Standard Flush Mate toilets. I bought two because I had two toilets. WOW! They can flush my big turds. I brought those builder specials & smashed them in my back yard & threw them out.

@@jm9980 we had a pet sitter come over once & they let their daughter into our house. When we returned our main waste pipe was clogged. I had to hire a main sewer guy to rod our waste pipe. Low & behold. You wouldn’t believe what caused the stoppage? A tampon. My wife & the pet sitter are way beyond using that. But the daughter we found out flushed the tampon down the toilet. That brain fart caused us $595 and a massive clean up in our house. I told the pet sitter that from now on…only she is allowed to use our bathroom/house. Brain dead teenagers are not allowed in the front door.

I use the seals and stainless washers under the tank and bolt the seals together as one unit. this prevents leaks thru the bolts and reduces the crush pressure when tightening the tank down. Makes for a stable mount. Thats a cheap ass toilet with a lot of uneven mounting holes due to poor manufacturing.

The dummy didn't use putty on the tank screws. It appears he tried to use PFTE thread compound as putty. You just can make that shit up. 🤣

A new fill valve and flush valve is about $30. The shutoff valve, wax ring, and the supply line would have needed to be bought in either case. A lot easier to stock a fill valve than a toilet.
